My Fifth Anniversary

On block 12,771,793 the Enjar account was created. That block was mostly filled with people following others, voting, and reward payouts. None of those fancy things we take for granted today such as json from gaming, so many different frontends to post from, and so much more. It was of course a time before Hive as well. While so much has changed over time so little has as well.

I’m Still Around And It’s Almost Shocking

Frankly, I never thought I’d still be here. I’ve been here during the highest highs and the lowest lows. I’ve posted on good days and some of the worst. I’ve posted when it's sunny outside where I’d rather be elsewhere and when I’ve had nowhere else to be.

This past year has been quite different. Despite things not going so well beyond my blog in the real world like everyone else. Within my blog, I’ve reached a place as a content creator I never thought I would be at.

For so many years I use to be up till three or four in the morning working on content. As soon as it was done I would hit publish. Then wait around for comments for about an hour before going to bed. Those days at least over the past year are behind me.

Unless I’m writing something that is a bit more time-sensitive I’m no longer posting content I’ve written the day of. I’ve accomplished having a couple of post backlogs that I’ve always wanted to have. This has enabled me to focus not on what I need to finish that day, but instead, on what I want to publish a week later.

That also means if content takes a bit longer to get out the door I have the time. I’ve struggled over the years trying to find a balance between time spent enjoying my hobby and getting a post out the door. This also usually meant once I posted about a game it was time to move on.

While I’ve always had my staples like Path of Exile that I would create a series of content on. Such things were quite often rare as I would move from game to game. Often I would not get to enjoy a game fully once I had a post out about it and had to move on to something else.

I have also been using the scheduled posting feature on occasion. This was the first year I had content being published when I was not around for days on end. Life and events often get in the way. Instead of stressing about it. I now have that backlog of content that I can be gone for days on end and not rush to get something out or have my blog remain silent for two weeks.

My old way of working on content was insanity. There were moments when I’d be in the middle of playing 6 different games at once. I was always trying to balance the short-term games along with content that would take months to get out. While that still happens on occasion it’s not as bad as it use to be.

I still remember my early days. I use to spend hours writing a single comment. Yes, just a comment. They were often ignored as giant walls of text. Sometimes I would get a reply back and for a while, I would create a new friend on the internet.

In those old days, it also took me sometimes six to twenty hours to just write a single post up. That is not include anything that leads up to being able to create the post. Just the writing part alone. I’ve never been that much of a writer and quite a slow one at that. Over these years I’ve cut that time down so much it’s made this journey enjoyable.

It’s now gotten to a point where I’m almost considering and testing around with uploading smaller-sized screenshots and images I use in my post. I find myself often being slowed down waiting for the uploads so I can put them into my post. Which is just a strange issue to have!

It took me quite a long time but I’ve worked out my method of content creation that I’ve refined over the years that works quite well for me. While one-off posts like this still take longer to work out and write up. In general, I’ve shocked myself with how quickly I sometimes write a piece of content.

It’s been amazing to share my hobby and love for gaming over all these years. If you would have asked me when I was younger if I ever would be publishing written content online and earning a single cent. Not only would I have laughed at you but every single writing teacher I ever had as well.

I also feel like I’m one of the rare ones. While 2017 seems like a great year and around these following months of people sticking around in good and bad times. There are so many people I’ve chatted with over the years that are long gone.

There are some people I miss greatly and think about from time to time. It would have been nice if we could have made this journey together. That is however not always in the cards. Regardless I keep posting.

Final Thoughts

While it is great to finish off another year here. It’s always about looking forward to the future. This coming year despite whatever the Hive price will end up doing will be an amazing one for me. I am quite close to reaching a lot of accomplishments. These took many years and a lot of effort to even get close.

I will hopefully on Twitter break 1k followers over there. It’s felt like an eternity to get anywhere. Perhaps they will ban me at 999 followers for some added fun! That is quite a special number for a few reasons that I’ll hopefully be able to take advantage of one day.

Many funnels I post links to my content in are about to break 10k views each. They are also slowly building up into something. These things take a long time but once they get going they slowly move upwards. While that might not sound like a lot. Only gamers looking for the game in question my content is on would even find the link in the first place. This makes every view quite a highly focused and valued one even if it’s not a click on my content.

I’ve started using Collections as a way to organize my content when I have a few posts on something. No longer am I bashing my brains on a wall trying to deal with my old index. Although that index is still around I just refuse to spend hours a month trying to maintain it.

Cheers to those still around. Hopefully, over the years you have built up your talents and continue to outshine those who lack the passion and fortitude to keep showing up.

Happy anniversary! It's funny, I looked at my origin block and it's got a lot of stuff in there but it was pre-Splinterlands which is cool. All comments, votes, follows/unfollows and a bit of drama. Gotta love when there was Bernie drama and it was included in my block! LOL

Lol, now that is a bit of history right there.

I will be completing 5 years later this month, so yeah I too am an oldie on this chain.

Happ 5th anniversary. I'm just starting my 3rd week, so I'm a long way behind you. I'm still learning about creating content. Coming up with new things to say is challenging. But I think that like most things, the more you do it the easier it gets. It would be good to get into the situation you're in and be ahead enough to schedule posts, particularly over weekends when I'm using tied up with family things.

Most when they start on Hive usually talk about Hive and random things. Over a progression of time, you end up finding a niche to focus more on. Hive is often a great excuse to go out and do the thing you want to in life.

What many find to be their own mundane life is often different and exciting for someone else across the globe. Hive is quite a global community. Sometimes you just got to test with different topics and see how they go.

Many on Hive take a hobby they have and share about that. It can sometimes create an interesting loop where you want to expand on that hobby to create more content and doing it leads you to do things you wish you always had and thus more content.

Mine has always been gaming. Gaming is quite a large topic here on Hive. You have everything from normal single-player games to blockchain MMORPGs. This makes it quite a wide topic where many have carved out their niche.

One thing I always wanted to give a try was making my games. For over two years I gave it a try. While it ended up being too massive of an undertaking for me in the end using Unreal Engine 4. I ended up expanding beyond just this blog and giving its own space till I shut it down. Such failure can be painful when you are sharing about it that is just the course of things here.

Ultimately you want to be doing things in a sustainable way that you can keep doing for years to come. Far too many push themselves hard and burn out leaving for months or years on end. Instead of being around for five years, they were around for only 1-6 months.

Thank you for taking the time to give me such a detailed reply. It seems to me like Hive is a great place to write about anything I want to. I think you are right, eventually I will find something that I can write about regularly. Games are not something I have ever got into, so I'm unlikely to go down that route. But I'm sure something will come up

Happy Anniversary, enjar! 🎂
You've been around for a long time. I hope to see many more years of great content from you.

Thanks.

Awesome! Have a great week :)

Congrats on 5 years man! I still need one more year to get 5 :D

Congratulations on your 5th! I know what you mean about missing folks. There are some that I really connected with that are no longer around. I think about them too and wonder what they’re up to. I still follow them just in case one day they surprise us and show up like “I’m back!”

Anyhoo, it’s good you’ve got your posting strategy down now. It was kind of crazy like that for me too in the beginning but now I realistically only post a few times a week because that’s what I can keep up with and easily maintain.

It’s pretty cool being one of the rare ones though…a veteran of the blockchain :)

I wish you many more years of fun here ~

Sometimes it use to just take leaving someone a comment asking if things are aright if they go for missing for weeks on end. They get a Discord notification from Ginabot or whatever they had. It’s not as easy these days.

I use to check in at least once a month on everyone I was following. Over the years it became a graveyard and I removed quite a few after a while.

I still chat with some elsewhere.

Yea it’s definitely not as easy. The only ones I’ve remained in contact with are the ones that shared their personal emails with me. We became sort of like pen pals off chain. Most people I know just don’t have the extra time for blogging life right now.

Wow!! Congratulations! 5 years! I admire you, not because being here it’s difficult or something because in fact, is very easy and fun, but to be constant, disciplined and persistent… uff… that’s another thing. Really, congratulations!

Thanks.

For some it’s easy and for others, it’s a struggle. Not everyone finds writing, blockchain, and social aspects easy.
