Tangles: Final Triptych.
'Tangles' was just one of many themes that the participants in the Makers Place recent Contest: Triptych Collective could choose from for their first panel.
I mentioned where and how my photograph, the first panel on the left of the 'Tangles' Triptych was taken in my previous article: Tangles. MakersPlace Contest.
A second middle panel was added in the second week by Indrani Mitra. And then in the third week, a third panel, for the right of the Triptych was added by Ruth Allen.

In the depths of tangles
The threads and bubbles hold me.
The tangles keep me steady. So I may soar.
Our lives are a series of knottings and unknottings.
Connections and disconnects. Ravelings and unravelings. ~Ally, Indrani and Ruth.
Tangles 1: First Panel.
I've always been fascinated by matted and knarled, tangled and twisted overgrowth in our Australian bushland and how the weavings of these features can create beautiful depth in a visual interpretation. ~Ally.
I'm equally captivated by the beauty of bubbles and water droplets and just how magical they can be when light plays upon them. ~Ally.
My image for the first panel combined the beauty of some waterlily-like proteas submerged underwater, with bubbles clinging to the tangles of their stems and sinuous threads. I took the original photograph at one of the annual Melbourne International Flower and Garden Shows.

Tangles 2: Second Panel.
Artists taking part in the Triptych Collective contest were asked to select one of the images, that had been produced by one of the other participating artists in the first week: And create an adjoining panel for it. Their panel was to be in their own creative style but at the same time, they were to consider the visual and poetic pairing of the panels.
'Tangles 2' was designed and painted by Indrani Mitra as the Second panel for 'Tangles.'
I immediately fell in love with Indrani's watercolour painting for 'Tangles' at first sight: How she has redesigned the waterlily-like proteas to still face both up and down. And how the other elements in Tangles have been incorporated into her painting: The bubbles and tangles against a dark background. And then the Icing on the Cake was an exotic and gracious Tangle Goddess. Definitely not a Goddess to be tangled with: With a beauty so captivating and a direct gaze so penetrating in an underwater world so magical. I was absolutely delighted that it stood in union next to Tangles 1.
Indrani's prose added purpose to the 'Story' too: Of being held and steadied by the tangles. And in feeling secure, being able to soar to new heights while at the same time being very grounded.

Tangles 3: Third Panel.
In the third week, all the artists involved in the Triptych Collective contest were asked to select one of the Triptych's themes that now had two panels, created by two different artists, and create an adjoining third panel for it. Once again, the panel was to be in the artist's own creative style but also take into account the relationship of all three panels.
'Tangles 3' was titled Tangles, untangles and it was digitally designed by Ruth Allen as the Third panel for 'Tangles.'
I also fell in love at first sight with Ruth's stylized panel for 'Tangles' with its shades of Hiroshige traditional Japanese woodblock prints as well as the more contemporary woodblock prints of Margaret Preston, another of my favourite Australian artists.
Her interpretation of the circles of light, the stems and the dark background all added to the striking visual impact.
Ruth's writing also added another dimension to the 'story' of our tangling and detangling: Knottings and unknottings, ravelings and unravelings, connections and disconnects, being likened to our lives and the ebb and flow of the tides.

Collaboration.
I loved seeing how each additional version of 'Tangles' simplified and extracted elements from the preceding panel/s: And how each panel contributed something of the individual's creative blueprint to the overall Triptych: Adding to both the visual and poetic story of Tangles.
The progression from my original photographic version of 'Tangles' to Indrani's watercolour underwater world highlighting the beauty of the Divine Feminine with the waterlily-like proteas with their sinuous stems, to Ruth's semi-abstracted and very powerful version of 'Tangles' has been so inspirational for me to see.
Participating in a contest where one has to consider the creative styles of other artists and then be able to continue the original 'Story' with something that expresses their own essence has been such a wonderful experience. And I'm hoping that there will be other opportunities to work in a similar way, sometime in the future.

I also worked with two other triptychs ~ The second panel for 'Everything is Connected' and the third panel for Metallic Memories.
I'll share the details of these two Triptychs in two follow-up articles.

'Tangles' ~ The winning Triptych for the Triptych Collective Contest.
It's just been announced in the Makers Place Discord Room that the 'Tangles' Triptych was selected as the winning entry for the Triptych Collective Contest. I'm 'over the moon' of course as there were so many other amazing Triptychs.
What does this mean?
MakersPlace will guarantee a $30 bid for an edition of each of the panels of the 'Tangles' Triptych. This Triptych will also be placed in the MakersPlace Private Collection.
Each panel was created as a limited edition of 5 and Indrani, Ruth and I will be able to: Keep the other editions in our MakersPlace store: Accept bids for them, sell or gift them.
