"The Equalizer" another reboot

Back in 1985 I was just a young pup trying to navigate through world of elementary school. Some of my favorite shows at the time were MacGyver, The A-Team, and Knight Rider. I remember around that time a show came out called The Equalizer.

My bedtime was at 9 and since this was on at 9 or 10 it wasn't something that I got the chance to watch. DVR was years away from being developed and my dad must have not deemed it worth wasting a VHS tape on.

In fact, I remember asking him about the show one time and his explanation was basically it is like MacGyver, but for adults. He explained that the guy goes after people who hurt women and he often uses science type projects to get back at them. Sounded cool, but as kids do I quickly forgot about it.

Most of you are probably more familiar with the 2014 film with Denzel Washington as The Equalizer. Then of course there was the sequel in 2018. To be honest I have never watched either of the movies. I really don't watch too many movies that much anymore. Carving out a solid 2 hour block to take in a movie uninterrupted is just a pipe dream in my busy life these days.

When it was announced that there was going to be a new TV show with Queen Latifah I knew that my wife and I would probably be checking it out. We are both fans of The Queen. Most of you probably know her from her rap career.

Maybe you didn't know, but besides rapping, she has an amazing singing voice, some of her jazz albums are pretty fantastic if you get the chance to check them out.

Personally, I don't think her acting ability equals her singing ability. To be fair, I haven't seen some of her standout rolls like "Set It Off". I am not saying she is horrible, I am just saying it isn't her strength.

The show itself is enjoyable. It doesn't feel much different than many of the other procedural shows that are out there these days. She has a "team" with tech guy and a "fighter" person, and then she is kind of a kick butt lady her self.

She kind of isn't believable as the elite former special agent that she plays, but I think they kind of knew that going in and it is something they were counting on.

The dialog in the show is pretty mundane and the interactions between the characters don't hit me the way that I think they are hoping. They feel awkward and forced. I understand the relationship with her daughter is supposed to be strained, but the interactions are just painful and uninspired.

The show is enjoyable and I will likely continue watching it with my wife. She hasn't given up on it yet either. It is one of those shows that I don't expect to get renewed for many seasons. I have a feeling it will get cancelled sooner rather than later. Who knows though, it could go on for 7 seasons and prove me a moron.

The entire premise and her current interactions with the CIA are also a bit unbelievable. I mean I know the CIA does some shady stuff, but the fact that they are wasting their time with her is odd. Perhaps it will become more clear if the show is allowed to complete its run.

I feel like plots are going to be hard to keep creative and fresh. The idea that she is helping someone new weekly could give them plenty of material to work with I guess.

Final word is I wouldn't pass on The Equalizer, just don't go into it expecting too much. If you just view it as some mindless entertainment with not a lot of substance you probably won't be disappointed.

I watched some of the original show starring Edward Woodward when it was on originally, but have not seen it since. It apparently ran to 88 episodes! I have not seen either movie. Vigilantes to be a popular theme in TV and movies. I guess that unlike a police show you do not need a big regular cast and people like to see someone dealing with criminals who seem to escape justice.

I had not heard of the new show, but I have a few things to watch lately anyway.

The dialog in the show is pretty mundane and the interactions between the characters don't hit me the way that I think they are hoping

That was what I also thought was the creativity itself
