Cleanplanet - clean the beach on 22.05.2020

in #cleanplanet4 years ago (edited)

The day after

Yesterday we had a national holiday in the Netherlands like in many other countries.
The weather was perfect (about 20 degrees C) and hundreds of people went to the beach.
It was like corona was gone. Nobody cared about "stay at home" anymore.

People just don't care

What I don't understand is if these ignorant people never want to come back to this lovely place.
Or would they just sit in their mess again what they left behind?
Perhaps they count on people like us #cleanplanet people who clean up their mess.
When they come back: "See, it's magically gone!"

Do you remember @dog-marley cleaning the beach?

It was last year when @dog-marley helped cleaning the beach documented in this post.
But what we found this evening was simply too much for him to clean up.
I had to do that on my own with him patiently waiting next to me.
When we take a walk I always carry at least two of these bags with me to clean up his 💩.

But seeing the mess documented below I had to decide: use the bags to clean up this massive garbage or save one to clean up his 💩?
The decision was made in seconds.
If I do not clean up his 💩 it would be gone anyway tomorrow because the seagulls and raves would eat it. This might sound disgusting but it's true. Pure nature.
If I would not clean up the plastic and metal tins they would be there for some hundred years.

What did we find?

Well, what you see below was all found in the dunes in an area about 4 x 4 meters.
Sorry, if the photos are not 100% clear - it was late already and the light was not perfect anymore.
Also sorry for the picture spam but I really wanted to show you what these people left behind on such a small surface. And I can assure you that I did not post all of them!

A plastic water bottle, some unknown plastic, and a paper plate which also has a plastic cover

Two more Fanta cans (sorry that I did not catch the upper one perfectly)

A little bit more plastic

Finally, the complete collection before we dumped it into the bin

I had to step on it because it was very windy this evening and I did not want to have it blown away. Actually, one plate escaped and was never seen again. @dog-marley tried to catch it but without success 😕.

Why did they leave it behind?

The next bin was only about 50 meters away. So for me there is no reason to not use them. And it's not only one ... there are more than 20 bins waiting to be used.

Back home again

When we arrived at our home again I first cleaned my hands before @dog-marley got his treats. I was a little worried about corona because I had to clean up everything with my own hands.

I hope this post can encourage more people to participate in the #cleanplanet movement!

It's simply disgusting right? All the mess they leave behind ... and not a single one of them that's worrying about what they did, and not a single one of them who had corona on their mind. I simply can not understand this kind of people. Great job in cleaning up ... but sadly that you had to.

Yeah - they really don't care about anything.
They carry it in bags to the beach and leave everything behind. Many times even the carry-bags.
And they do not get caught because as long as they are there they will pretend to clean up everything and when they are gone it's too late.

Thanks a lot for your support!
I also hope to have encouraged some more people to take action.
You hear them complaining but most of the time they don't take action.
Hopefully we can change that together.

Nice work. My kids and I are planning on cleaning some of the canyon near my house. It my kids idea too.

A great idea!
Encourage them to do so! The more people do so the better!
And if your kids understand how important this is they will spread the word.
