Building My 1st PC- Step 1 Pick Out The Parts

in #computer3 years ago

So I need want new computer. And guess what, I decided that it's about time that I build my first computer. I've never done it before and this is my first time doing so. First thing we gotta do, pick out the parts. Now I know that the most widely used site to build a computer online is https://pcpartpicker.com/ and so thats where I started. What did I do but build my computer there.

It went through a few iterations, with me asking @foxon for help on what to pick(and getting made fun of because I wanted a nice looking GPU) and eventually I settled on something I liked within a budget that will work for me.

Then @deathwing took a look and told me that he would make something better at a similar price range. And that's how we have ended up with the current iteration of what I'll probably get: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zQbdCz. Its not a beast or anything but should be a nice machine that lets me have more than one chrome tab and discord open at once. RAM is the biggest problem with my current MacBook Pro(I opted for the 8 GB model, BIG MISTAKE).

Now AMD is releasing their new CPUs on November 5th and Nvidia's release of their new GPUs and so I expect that to drop the price of some older CPU and GPUs. That should help me upgrade my specs without needing to go up in price. I'm considering upgrading to the Ryzen 5 5600X for $299($90 more than the CPU thats currently selected) because the performance gain is immense. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. Part 1.25 should come out once more prices for CPUs and GPUs settle down after the launch, maybe mid-late November and I modify the build some more(with the help of @deathwing and @foxon) to get something more powerful hopefully at the same price as I've got right now.

Hahaha, I still just don't know how to think of GPUs that way. It was like being in a familiar world with no understanding of what's happening

Stoked for you to have a decent machine in front of you! Just look at all the things you've done with that laptop, a pi, and some potato servers. This gonna be awesome when the time comes

Hey some of those servers aren't potatoes. @someguy123 will vouch for them. 2 of them are complete potatoes that I pay $1/month for.
