What is your favourite cryptocurrency web-browser wallet?

in #cryptocurrency3 years ago (edited)

I’ve been giving a lot of thought to the current wallets that we have on Hive and concluded, for a few reasons I’ll be sharing more of later, that there’s a lot of room for improvement.

So I’m taking some time right now at the drawing board considering what I would love to see differently than those that we have. Having just helped 3 new users get started on Hive in the recent month (@olebulls, @maxgou and @katiolus if you want to give them a follow and some engagement 😊), I’ve seen some of the challenges and confusions that some of them have had which I would like to see addressed.

There are tonnes of different wallet solutions out there, which ones are your favorites?

So in that regard, I would love to hear from any of you what wallets you’ve tried on other blockchains that you’ve liked? Whether it be because of its design, simplicity, being intuitive and easy to use, or with some unique features that you’re missing here. I must admit that I’ve really sucked at exploring other blockchains and cryptos outside of HIVE and Bitcoin the past few months, so I expect that there’ll be a lot out there that I’ve completely missed.

I am especially interested in wallets for tokens that can be staked and where rewards are earned (whether it is normal staking rewards, or DeFi-related yields). Yes, that’s right, I’ve not tried out or owned a single DeFi token.

I’ll make sure to upvote any comments that I get containing at least a screenshot of the wallet and some explanation for what you like about it, or how you experienced it as easy to use and intuitive.

Metamask @fredrikaa,

I use it almost everyday for ERC-20 Tokens or BEP-20 (BSC) tokens. Works with Chrome & Brave (I use both of them). I think it is compatible with MS Edge & Mozilla Firefox as well, not sure, you might have to check.

They have both iOS & Android apps too so you are covered on the go as well. You can even connect & access your hardware wallet to it like Trezor and Ledger. You can also swap ERC-20 Tokens with each other. Very easy to use!

I think it's one of the most used Crypto Wallets out there. I use it almost daily for Cub Finance. ;)

I would urge you to try it once & get into the world of DeFi. As compared to traditional finance schemes, DeFi is far superior (read Profitable) since it removes the middleman like the Banks & the Government.

I've come to appreciate Metamask as well. Haven't used it that much (only recently to take a position in KOIN, but I really like what I've seen!

Isn't keychain trying to do more or less all the same things on top of being a log-in option for most Hive-based interfaces? Or what's the difference?

Edit: I will have to put some money into CUB if only to support local efforts and also try it out :)

Yepp! Hive Keychain is quite similar. The only differences I observed that keychain doesn't provide swap facilities like metamask does and not as popular.

Cub Finance is so cool. Must try for everyone who doesn't want to miss DeFi boat. Do give it a try!

Curious why web-browser? Generally I avoid web-browser wallets preferring mobile with 2fa. 85% of my crypto assets are staked on exchanges, CDC, Celsius, BlockFi, Trust Wallet and Atomic Wallet. But If I had to only choose a web-browser wallet it would be Theta which is a single token wallet. I run 35 Edge Nodes and have about 38 wallets set up.

I also use 3 Trezor wallets for cold storage. They are web accessed and I'm not a huge fan of them but I only access them a couple times a year.

Cheers

I was hoping to look at how other cryptos provide web wallets comparable to the ones we have on peakd and hive.blog, which as far as I know are the wallets that 98% of our users use. (I guess some also use vessel and keychain).

I think these could use some improvements and simplifications, or simply that we had a more platform-neutral option.

Thanks for the suggestions though! I will have a look at some of them :)

I agree the web wallet on peakd could be better. Most likely I just don't know how, but downloading a .cvs transactions log would be helpful.

However I have come to accept is as integrated with the platform.

I'm also fine with it myself. But I've noticed how it seems confusing to some of the people I've recently help get started on Hive, which is why I wanted to see what other cryptos are doing and which wallets people liked.

I use coinomi and have not had any problems. They have hive terminal tokens but not hive or hbd. I first got it to place my unobtanium i had mined back in the day from genesis mining. My 2 year dash mining contract has only a few months☹️It has done very well considering there was a point a year back where it was barely producing any rewards.

I had never heard of coinomi before, so thanks for the idea to go check it out :)

Coinbase is great, but that's probably because it was there I bought my first coin. Their user interface is somewhat also appealing. Hosted wallets tho... suits me well cause the main benefit of keeping your crypto in a hosted wallet is if you forget your password, you won’t lose your crypto. 😁 Metamask, as you know, is great - ridiculously good overview and very simple!

To put it short I hated Metamask for the longest time but that was just me without knowledge or any details about how to set it up. Now that I understand how it all works it's by far the best I have found so far.

What made you take the time to figure it out? Was it because you simply "had to" in order to get into a crypto you really wanted a position in? Or because you found a good guide or explanation post/video somewhere?

Had to in order to start using CUB lol Plus there where and are a lot of great helpful people in the LeoFinance discord that helped. From that I figured many others would have the same questions I did so I wrote articles about it to help them out. Besides that I honestly love learning new things.

That's interesting to hear. What's the guide you wrote?

I just had a look at hive.io/wallets to see what wallets had any form of "guide" or information that could be useful to a new user looking to get started. Not much... hive-keychain.com has a great looking landing page, but no guides.

Perhaps we should have some well-written user guides for each and ensure they are visibly linked on each wallet page?

They are from a while ago.

Besides that I have a whole onboarding email series which is a little over a week long that goes over everything someone needs to know to get started and start earning their first Leo and Hive. I put the call to action at the bottom of nearly all of my posts and around on other websites for posts I make there. So far it's pushing roughly 2-3 new leads a day but I really want to take a few days out and expand it into CUB along with a few other ideas I have.

I'm not a big fan of a wallets but I do have some apps install like exodus and houbi wallet

Why not?

Sorry I wanted to say online wallets because they are major security risk and your private key can be stolen basically I think it's risky that's why I don't use online wallets

Coinbase, since it was my first and easy to use & Crypto.com so I can play around with coins like doge 🤓 Bittrex is another one that the missus believes in (who is much more versed in the than I am) for the variety of coins on offer & now, Kraken comes to mind.

Heya! Cool to hear that you like their interfaces:). But exchanges are not wallets. You do not posses the keys to those tokens, instead Coinbase, Bittrex and Kraken do and they let you trade and then move your tokens on or off the exchange. But at no point do you actually interact with the blockchains, they do.

So while that is not to say that one should never use exchanges, they are not actual wallets the way that your wallet on wallet.hive.blog is which allow you to sign transactions on the Hive blockchain with your own private keys.

Edit: I assume for Coinbase you are referring to the Hot wallet that they provide which is different to the exchange itself?

Yes, hosted.. so it doesn't count :P

Oops... Thanks, for educating me. I understood that within these exchanges, I did have a wallet 😳

Hehe, I think many people are in the same boat as you. ^^

The tokens that thousands of different users of one exchange see in their respective log-in interfaces are in reality all belonging to one wallet owned and controlled by the exchange. For instance, you can see all the HIVE tokens held on Binance in their Hive wallet here https://peakd.com/@binance-hot/wallet

That's why everyone on Hive who wants to move their tokens to Binance all sends it to the same Hive account name: @deepcrypto8, but with a unique memo to tell the exchange which user on the exchange should receive the tokens.

This is why a lot of people insist that if you want true ownership of your cryptocurrency, you should not hold them on exchanges but instead have them in your own safely kept wallet, like your Hive account.

Thanks, friend, for that elaboration. That’s why my wife keeps savings in cold storage, I learned.

I learned how safe Hive wallet is the hard way, when I lost my password & still cannot access $5,000!

Oh, well, here I am, starting again & trying to be safer.

My pleasure :).

Ouff, yeah that's the ugly irony. It can backfire when one is trying so hard to keep it safe that one locks themselves out. I learned that @ramta cannot access his 354,580 HIVE tokens and the same amount of STEEM after his house burned down last year... As if those damages weren't harsh enough.

I'm, really, sorry to hear it, @ramta (it puts my loss in perspective). My family house burned down, nearly two decades ago and we lost a great deal, so I can imagine your suffering... Wishing you healing and recovery of your finances, too. In solidarity, yahia

I like it so much !

I will try it soon

I love and will always love the Nano crypto, formerly called Raiblocks, I think it is a splendid project and despite not being one of the best at the moment, I think it is a crypto with a great future.

How do you get $90 in rewards for asking for advice? Why is this trending? Shouldn't posts like this be downvoted to zero?
