Jesus Christ in Fulfilled Prophecy

in #deepthinking7 years ago (edited)

Luke 24:44 And he [Jesus Christ] said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

Fulfilled Prophecy = scriptural prophecy that is (was) fulfilled [finished, come to pass]

Before considering the historical arguments used by the advocates of eschatology to prove any fulfillment of scriptural prophecy, Bible readers should observe that Christ is the center of biblical history and of prophecy. Moreover, "the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10); so, "fulfilled prophecy" must also be judged according to the words of Jesus Christ, the life [spirit] of prophecy.

Furthermore, "fulfilled prophecy" must be interpreted in harmony with the whole prophetic design of God; likewise, every prophecy must be a part of the entire revelation of the Scriptures.

Let us now view some prophecies concerning Jesus Christ and their fulfillment:

The Ruler of Israel and his birthplace Bethlehem

Prophecy

Mic 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.

Fulfillment

Matt 2:1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
Matt 2:2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.
Matt 2:3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.
Matt 2:4 And when he had gathered all the chief priests and scribes of the people together, he demanded of them where Christ should be born.
Matt 2:5 And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written by the prophet,
Matt 2:6 And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel.

The Great Light and his ministry in Galilee

Prophecy

Isa 9:1 Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
Isa 9:2 The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.

Fulfillment

Matt 4:12 Now when Jesus had heard that John was cast into prison, he departed into Galilee;
Matt 4:13 And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim:
Matt 4:14 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying,
Matt 4:15 The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;
Matt 4:16 The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up.

The Prophet and his coming into the world

Prophecy

Deut 18:15 The LORD thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

Fulfilment

A Man of Sorrows rejected by Jews during his generation

Prophecy

Luke 17:25 But first must he suffer many things, and be rejected of this generation.

The King of the Jews and his crucifixion with sinners

Prophecy

Isa 53:12 Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

Fulfillment

Mark 15:22 And they bring him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull.
Mark 15:23 And they gave him to drink wine mingled with myrrh: but he received it not.
Mark 15:24 And when they had crucified him, they parted his garments, casting lots upon them, what every man should take.
Mark 15:25 And it was the third hour, and they crucified him.
Mark 15:26 And the superscription of his accusation was written over, THE KING OF THE JEWS.
Mark 15:27 And with him they crucify two thieves; the one on his right hand, and the other on his left.
Mark 15:28 And the scripture was fulfilled, which saith, And he was numbered with the transgressors.

The Lamb of God who died for sinners before his entombment with the rich

Prophecy

Isa 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
Isa 53:8 He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken.
Isa 53:9 And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.

Fulfillment

John 1:29 The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

Matt 27:57 When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
Matt 27:58 He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
Matt 27:59 And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
Matt 27:60 And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.

The Holy One and his resurrection

Prophecy

Ps 16:10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

Fulfillment

Matt 28:5 And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
Matt 28:6 He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Matt 28:7 And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
Matt 28:8 And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
Matt 28:9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.

The Author of Eternal Salvation and his ascension

Prophecy

Ps 68:18 Thou hast ascended on high, thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious also, that the LORD God might dwell among them.
Ps 68:19 Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.

Fulfillment

Luke 24:50 And he led them out as far as to Bethany, and he lifted up his hands, and blessed them.
Luke 24:51 And it came to pass, while he blessed them, he was parted from them, and carried up into heaven.

Acts 1:9 And when he had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight.

1Thess 5:9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
1Thess 5:10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Heb 5:8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
Heb 5:9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

Now, think about this, if there is no such thing as a "fulfilled prophecy," what assurance do we have today that would prove that God is true to his Word? How could we possibly trust God if he did not fulfill his promise of salvation to Israel through Christ?

It must, therefore, be a joy to share "fulfilled prophecy" so that everyone can test publicly any interpretation of prophecy out there. We, as believers of God's Holy Scriptures, with careful reading and research, must exercise our senses in this endeavour of naming every "prophecies already fulfilled" in the past so that we can enjoy God more and glorify his Name.

HalleluJESUS!
