Minneapolis Vaccine Mandate

My recent dreams have been ambiguous. Last night, I dreamed that I was in a forest at a rainbow gathering. The forest service was looking for me, but for reasons unknown I didn't want to be found. So I flew through the air, thirty feet above a friend of mine, while we looked for our camp. Later, I dreamed that someone was showing me their new room, all filled with art, as it slowly dawned on me that the room we were in once belonged to me, and now I had no room.

I wish that rainbow gathering dream had been more detailed. I'm currently conflicted about going to the next big gathering this summer in Colorado. On one hand, it will probably be a beautiful and epic event. It's also been too long since I've camped in the Rockies. On the other hand, the cost in time and money to go would be substantial, assuming I can even find a safe ride. And then there's the covid factor, which complicates any event consisting of 10k people all sharing food and space with each other. Unfortunately, the dream didn't add any clarity to the situation.

The dream about losing a room was more clear cut. Due to circumstances beyond my control, the physical space I have at my disposal has shrunk and shrunk again over the last few years. Covid has amplified this problem. More recently, quarantine protocols in my house have made everything but my bedroom off limits to me unless I wear a mask and use toxic cleaning products constantly. So the entire world outside of my tiny bedroom is a dystopia controlled by other people. It's unsurprising that my dreams find this unsatisfactory.

Elsewhere, Street art has appeared in Washington DC reminding us that our control regime is using propaganda to keep us afraid and obedient. Here in Minneapolis, a citywide vaccine mandate is going into effect. I'd just like to note that I'm living proof that vaccination doesn't stop the spread of covid. Also, while the new rule in Minneapolis means that I'll have to show my papers to get a cup of coffee, it does not mean that employees of the coffee shop will have to be vaccinated. Yes, you read that correctly, the rule only applies to customers and not to employees of food service establishments.

There is no expiration date for this vaccine mandate. Nor is there a reasonable alternative to showing your papers. You can show a negative supervised PCR test that was taken within 72 hours, but I didn't get the results of my last PCR test until more than 72 hours had passed. That means all of those who decline the vaccine for legitimate medical reasons are now segregated from society in the city where I live. Since this won't do a single thing to stop the spread of covid, I wonder what the point of the policy really is.

I think the point is simply that officials feel pressured to do something even when there's nothing more to be done. So they do the wrong thing. It's logistically easier for them to enact a policy of segregation than it is for them to make free testing fast and easily available, which would provide good information to slow the spread. It wouldn't surprise me at all if this is leading up to another lockdown. Or worse.

All of this concerns me. It seems like a prelude to more civil unrest when the weather gets warm, especially in light of the unraveling economy. It would be great if the control regime recognized this dark potential and responded in a way that minimized such risk, because civil unrest is obviously worse than covid. Or do they not understand that?

I was hoping you had been to the coffee shop to see how they were dealing with it.

Sorry not lately. Probably this weekend.
