Blind Wine Tasting Competition

EL GATO DE SCHRÖDINGER

This sunday I have been in a very interesting event. It was a blind wine tasting contest in Granada, Spain.

This was the second edition of this contest named "El Gato de Schrödinger" that means "Schrödinger's Cat". The first one has been carried out on the may 2017. I wasn't in the competition but I was one of the guests as my boyfriend was an entrant.

The blind wine contest means that the entrants do not see the names, bottles or any kind of information about the wine that they are tasting. They are trying to guess some specialities of it only by tasting, smelling and examining the physical appearance and texture.

In the contest table of each entrant, there were four white three red wines and the properties to guess were:

1)Country (it can be any from any part of the world)
2)Region
3)Denomination
4)Principal variety of grape
5)Year
6)Producer( Vineyard)
7)Brand

In the first edition, the competition part was in a private hall and the guests couldn't watch them but this one was public. With the condition of being quiet, they let us watch them.

After the competition part we figured out that there were six ones and one vermouth, an aromatized, fortified wine flavored with various botanicals which is very tradition in the south of Spain. And one of the wines, was a sweet wine from Hungry (Tokaji Oremus)

After the contest, there was a huge reception for all of the participants, which give us opportunity to taste more than 120 wines from all over the world.

And if we talk about wine, we can't forget the cheese. Of course there was a big buffet of cheese to taste. We tried different types of goat, sheep and cow cheese.

And also one of the most important, local olive oils from Andalucia. You can imagine it's taste from the colour. It basicly taste like fresh grass.

In the end they gave amazing and really expensive wines to the winners. My boyfriend didn't get a degree, but I believe he will do it next year. Maybe for the next year's contest, I will encourage myself to join even if I'm not that good. It is very complicated to guess every characteristic. I have been in lots of course, but still not enough to make correct comparison.Anyway, it was an amazing experience, lots of wine, lots of gourmet food. I'm looking forward for the next year.

Thank you for reading.

Sort:

How many of the 120 wines did you taste exactly? :) any hangover?

Hahahaha, I think I tasted like 14 but they were not entire, I mean they just fill the glass a little for tasting and then if you want to keep drinking the same wine you can ask more. I was quiet tipsy but not so drunk. I broke two glasses to reach the cheese plate :))))

hahaha ^^ That was good cheese I'm sure !

The cheese were very good but the jamon was spectacular.

a different and fun competition. The taste should be very good.

Yes, it was very interesting and delicious :)
