Game Night @ BillTina’s

in #gaminglast year

My friends Bill & Christina are HARDCORE gamers. Their nerdy game dungeon is stacked with hundreds of truly badass tabletop games of every variety. They travel to PAX each and every year to sample, discuss, and ultimately snag the newest available board games…and their dedication is our gain. For ya see, these maniacs love to hold game nights every so often in their pad, and we couldn’t be happier nerds when we come over to play.

Last night, was one of those game nights. I believe there were supposed to be 10 or 11 of us, but some cancelled last minute leaving lots of choices for the 6 of us that made it. Sadly I snapped this photo later in the evening after Christina’s cousin Mike had to bail. (Sorry Mike!)

What makes their game nights a blast, is the idea that anyone can bounce around and play whatever they want. Last evening’s setup had two games at the kitchen table, one in in living room, one in the basement, and two more in the actual game dungeon leading to 6 fully operational games…all ready for our dumbasses to try to learn on the fly.

I’ll state that BillTina’s expertise in gaming makes them both excellent at breaking down each game so that our commoner brains are able to absorb the rules and goals properly…or as much as possible. Usually we sit and at least one of them will try to play along with whatever group is trying something out. Practice rounds turn into the real deal, and soon enough the shit talking and competitive nature bursts through.

All the while, we load our hungry munch holes with various forms of tastiness. Last evening, the selection included pulled pork sliders, wraps, Buffalo sausage dip, salads, chips, pretzels, cakes, cookies, and lots and lots of beer. As per usual, I gorged myself to the point where I’m actually a bit disappointed in myself…but I’m no stranger to that feeling! But enough about my self hatred because we are here to discuss games!!!

First up was Azul. Ton of fun tile game that was super easy to learn, plus I won my second game. Not too shabby. Highly recommended.

This next one was a blast as well, and it looks beautiful to boot. In Hickory Dickory or as my wife called it last night, Tick Tock…the clock makes this gem shine and draws the eyes to it immediately. You play as little mice trying to collect trinkets and ultimately score the most points at the end. This took a bit longer to learn as it was definitely more involved than say the game above, Azul. I lost by 2 measly points to the wife, while Lenny got trounced. Talk about shameful…way to go Lenny. 😂 Great game. Also, highly recommended.

The only other game I played last evening was one I played before. This one called King of Tokyo, is a super quick and easy game to both learn and kick ass in. The first match we played, lasted mere minutes as the monster in Tokyo simply demolished all the players in rapid time. The second game lasted a lot longer, but I lost both. The goal is to either kill all the other monsters, or end up with 20 points first. My Mech hung in there the second game for a bit, before eventually getting stomped. Yup…you guessed it…also highly recommended.

There were three other games for us to partake in, but I was too busy with these. My shitty brain can only absorb so many files and objectives in one evening. Plus I hate learning a game and bouncing to the next one. I want to play a couple matches to fully appreciate it. But there’s always next time as these looked awesome as well. The Great Split, Fjords, and Clank…we will meet again.

All in all, a wonderful evening with some of my favorite fellow nerds. BillTina, I’m eternally grateful for your hardcore dedication in attempting to teach us commoners the ways of the game. Your patience and faith in us is much appreciated. 🙏 Until next time…

I wanted to get into table top games for some time, my kids are now big enough and I want to get them off the computer during weekends, they have the same illness as i do "Very good at computers" , the oldest one already using Chat GPT plus he is an indoor cat same as I so table games fit in to get them off the computer, that King of Tokyo seems cool and not expensive might grab a copy from Ebay next paycheck, thx for sharing ✌️

Yeah, King of Tokyo comes highly recommended as it takes literally a couple of minutes to learn. It’s quick, easy, and a blast.

My friends are (as you can see) super hardcore when it comes to tabletop gaming. Along with their kids, they play these badboys regularly and pretty much master most to a degree.

My tiny brain doesn’t have the capability to sit down and teach myself these games, so we are super lucky that our friends are fantastic at breaking it all down for us gaming commoners.

If you pick it up and check it out, lmk your thoughts. There are other games I prefer but for overall ease, KoT is a monster!!! no pun intended

Have you seen that movie Game Night with (hottie) Rachel McAdams in it? I saw your title and thought of it right away. It looks like your friends have things covered, but I'd like to see the post about a game night similar to the movie. I'd vote it. Lol.

I love her, so of course I’ve seen it! Lol.

Our adventures are a bit more lame and unadventurous. They usually involve someone eating too much and Hogging the bathroom, or drinking too much and passing out early. Don’t think a “sleepy me with mudbutt” story would generate a ton of interest here, but you do you. 😂

Lol...Nah, I think it's best those types of stories stay well off the blockchain.

And yeah, Rachel McAdams huh? 😍

Yeah, she’s one of my celeb crushes for sure.

Lol

If you are really jonesing for a 💩 story, feast on this one from years back. It’s 100% true too.

That would haunt me to the day I die man, who does stuff like that? Is that an Asperger's thing? That fateful day of the pooening must live in your memory of one of the worst right?

I like how you rolled the story out though, very entertaining. Ankle cancer cracked me up for some reason. Lol.

I actually do think he’s on the spectrum. Last time I saw him was probably in the start of covid lockdown. Think he ended up moving. His visits were always challenging but this one was on another level.

Lol at ankle cancer as well. Forgot about that. Lol

I love board games!

We have Zombicide at home (season 1) though. They have Zombicide Black Plague on their shelves. Myself and some friends managed to finish the whole game, all missions.

I've also played quite a bit of King of Tokyo.

I also saw 7 boxes?! Of Bloodbowl!

That's Games Workshop stuff. I have a Dwarf team.

But I am getting back into my big one now - Warhammer 40,000!

I am glad you had fun! Please keep posting more boardgame stuff!

That’s fantastic! Love seeing others interested in gaming. I’ll definitely post after each game night from now on.

I’ll also snap better pics of their selection as it has grown since those bulk photos were taken. They are maniacs as I’ve mentioned…

What are some of your favorites? I’m curious to see what they think of your top games?

Well my utmost top right now is my 40k.

I havent properly gotten into the gaming part yet, but the painting and Lore side itself is just amazing.

Fantastic! I have 0 artistic talent and I’m sure if I attempted to paint minis, it would be a disaster.

Hahaha, You will not know until you try! Also, just watch a couple of tutorials. These new paints make painting so easy!

This is a whole world I haven't really explored, but I did play some board games at Christmas. I know lots of people are really into it. Could be a bit more social than most computer games. Have fun.

Yeah, there’s a whole entire world around this stuff. When my nutty friends attend PAX (gaming convention/show), they drop thousands on new games and expansions. It’s big business.

Wow all these games seem so cool and I love all the artwork. I always mean to get into such games, but just seem to forget and then I see these and think "What fun it'd be!" Thank for reminding me @blewitt

I actually love it. My main issue is I’m too unmotivated to learn these myself. But there are a few I really like that I might one day snag myself. I highly recommend a game night amongst friends though if able to though.

@blewitt woo!! wow!! The number of games is impressive, it must be incredible to spend time playing and sharing with friends, I don't think I ever played any board game, my family didn't have that custom, but I consider it a perfect technique to bring the family closer together and friends and certainly have many skills! 😎🥇🎯Congratulations!!

Yeah, I believe they have family game nights regularly which is awesome. My kids…not sure would have the patience to learn the in-depth games. At least not my daughter. But a fun game we did play that is tremendously easy is a Party Game called Ransom Notes. Takes 5 seconds to learn and provides tons of laughs…as long as you aren’t playing with a bunch of squares.
