A Look at My Community Garden Plots for June 10/2020

in #gardening4 years ago

Hello, and welcome to my garden!

It's been a while since I've written a post about my community garden plots, so I thought now would be as good of a time as any.

I had planted most of one of my plots with potatoes, along with a couple of squash plants on the upper end of the plot. I wasn't sure what I was going to plant in the other plot, so I ended up letting a friend use it for some extra planting space. She planted sweet corn, a variety of dried beans, and 3 pumpkin plants in that plot. The two plots are next to each other, so the rabbit fence surrounds both plots instead of separate fences for each plot.

First, a look at the plot that I'm using. I have 4 rows of Adirondack Blue potatoes, 2 rows of Kennebec Red potatoes, and 2 rows of Yukon Gold potatoes planted in this plot. The Yukon Golds are just starting to come up, so there's not much of anything to see in those 2 rows. I have my irrigation system in place and tested, so when there's a dry spell, I can water the rows.

I have 2 Delecata squash plants planted in the upper corner of the garden. I tried to start more seeds, but only these 2 came up. I have the rest of that space mulched with straw. That will be a good place for the squash vines to grow onto as they get a bit bigger. Eventually they'll expand across more of the garden, but not for a while.

Here's a look at the other plot. You can see the bean plants coming up here, but the corn is still too small to be seen in the picture. The bean plants are some kind of a dry black bean, but I don't know the name of the bean.

Here's a look at the pumpkin plants. These are all sugar pie pumpkin plants.

We've been getting rain for the past 2 days, so I expect to see the corn growing larger the next time I go up to the community garden to check on the plants. I generally go up there every couple of days to see that everything is ok in this garden. I also expect that I'll have to mow the grass around the plots after the rain is done, so there's another excuse to go up there.

Well, that's all I have for this post, thanks for stopping by to check it out!

What a wonderful garden.
We use hay as well to mulch, we were able to our potatoes in a few weeks ago and they are going nuts already. We have re-mulched them twice already.
Oh I sure hope yours do well.
Love gardening don’t you?
Have a blessed day

Thank you!
I do seem to have a passion for gardening. Good thing too, otherwise it wouldn't be worth all the work...LOL

Oh yeah you got to love what you do, or it does become. WORK and shush who needs that🤔
Be at peace
