Anti-GMO activism isn't about health or safety and it never has been.

It's the same appeal to nature fallacy that we've seen from Greenpeace for years and the same illiberal elitism that we've seen from people who are against fast food.

(Note, from now on, in lieu of the term "organic crops" I'll be using the term "primitive." Seriously people, "organic" just means "carbon based.")

First of all, almost everybody who is anti-GMO says things like, "We need to prove that they're safe." Well, this really kinda shows your true colors right there. GMO crops intended for human consumption are rigorously tested. Golden rice itself has been tested for twenty years. It's been shown to do what it's intended to do and that it's no more dangerous than conventional rice. Yet, people demand more testing while tearing up test crops. In mean time, nine million kids die per year who we could have helped.

Namely, "Prove that they're safe." proves to me that you're never going to see enough tests to be convinced.

How about I ask you to prove that primitive crops are safe. We've got a lettuce shortage in Arizona outbreak because of E Coli in an primitive crop. Should we now flip the script on how we look at testing primitive foods and demand that they all go through twenty years of testing before they hit the market? Of course not.

If you believe in any kind of freedom, it shouldn't be "Prove that it's safe before we let it out." It should be "Prove that it's not safe before we restrict it."

Anti-GMO people love to insist that us reasonable people are trying to take away their choices. Bullshit. You don't need to look out the window. Just look in a mirror. You're the ones trying to force us to buy primitive crops. I have no interest in taking primitive foods out of your mouth. If you wanna spend 20% more on food than I do, go for it.

Anti-GMO people insist on absurd facts that are false to the point that ignorance has to be wilful.

"Primitive crops don't use pesticides." Yeah they do. Every commercial crop does. Actually, to legally get the "organic" label, regulations mandate the use of older, probably less environmentally sound pesticides.

There's no evidence that GMOs are less nutritious than primitive. In fact, some are engineered to provide nutrients that primitive crops don't.

Always, when faced with facts, they just shout "Monsanto" at you. Even if the crazy allegations about Monsanto were all true, it's still not an issue of public health or safety. It's patent stuff.

It's time to stop pretending that you're somehow fighting the good fight to protect people from eating that awful stuff. You're not.
