The global 5G rollout is well underway. In the US, this has created some minor conflict between the FAA, airlines, and telecommunications companies. There are health concerns associated with exposure to wireless technologies in general and 5G in particular. The nonprofit Children's Health Defense lists these as: chronic headaches, fatigue, trouble sleeping, ringing in the ears, rashes/hives, and feeling stressed or 'wired.' The nonprofit cites the World Health Organization as the source of their data. And yet, according to the WHO:
"To date, and after much research performed, no adverse health effect has been causally linked with exposure to wireless technologies. ... Tissue heating is the main mechanism of interaction between radiofrequency fields and the human body. Radiofrequency exposure levels from current technologies result in negligible temperature rise in the human body."
Having done a fair amount of research on the subject for my news job, I consider 5G to carry similar health risks as the other wireless tech we're exposed to constantly. It's probably not great for our health, but consumer microwave ovens are much more risky. The main impact of 5G RF on the human body seems to be small, localized heating of the skin and/or eyes. So, not great, but not the end of the world, either.
The Great 5G Awakening
Recently, @tarotbyfergus did a tarot reading about 5G. Although he expected the cards to warn of mass health problems, they told a different story. The presence of The Fool indicated that we are embarking on something powerful and fresh, while The Star suggested deep cosmic fulfillment. I see tarot as a system for making unconscious material conscious. Maybe this reading picked up on an impending mass psychic awakening coinciding with the 5G rollout in the US.
Last week, I wrote about a covid prophesy making the rounds in alt-left circles. This prophesy claimed that covid was an evil plot to bring our energy down and that vaccines were an evil plot to disconnect us from our spiritual source. Both of those things seem like nonsense to me. But the prophesy also included the idea that we're headed for mass psychic awakening. This idea isn't new, but it might warrant new attention now that society is falling apart around us.
In a mechanical sense, increased connectivity is combining with machine learning and smart tech to transform our relationship with our environment and each other. There are some major downsides to this, but the upside is that each of us is coming to inhabit a personalized information ecology. There's something transcendent about that. At the same time, society doesn't yet have good stories about this transformation's transcendent dimension. That's where the great 5G awakening comes in.
Many of the stories we currently tell ourselves and each other about ourselves and each other pertain to a world that no longer really exists. These shared stories are important on a mythic level. Without them, no one really knows what they're doing. Alongside this, our devices are now providing us with all kinds of stimuli that our bodies didn't evolve to interpret, such that our natural instincts have become increasingly unreliable sources of information. And yet, we press on, like The Fool in the tarot spread.
I talk often about how society's response to the pandemic has brought us into dystopia. In my opinion, nothing short of a mass awakening seems likely to put us on a better path. The public narrative remains dominated by reds and blues fighting with each other. This is massively alienating, and many among the masses of alienated people are looking for new stories that better explain what's happening in the world and their place in it.
I'm not saying that the 5G rollout in the US will indeed lead to a great psychic awakening. But our population does seem primed for some kind of awakening. Maybe this is an area where hope is warranted. Maybe there really is an awakening beginning.
