LAVANDER AND BUTTERFLIES (IN SLOW MOTION)

in Fascinating Insects2 years ago (edited)

Today I drove about ninety kilometers, to the inland area in the northern part of Istra. I spent some time in the valley of the river Mirna and then stopped again a couple of kilometers further, uphill, not far from the village of Sovinjak. There, on the narrow winding road that leads to the aforementioned village, I encountered a nice variety of butterflies.

(Enlargeable)

The insects were feeding on the decorative lavender planted by the side of the road. It was a very colorful scene, enhanced by the strong fragrance of the lavender flowers.
I took plenty of photographs, by the river and on the hill, but they will appear in the near future in another post that will be titled ON THE HILL AND IN THE VALLEY BELOW. Today's post will be short on photographs and focused on the footage that I recorded while observing the butterflies. What follows, it's a video that I made from those recordings. Have a good viewing.

Seven minutes of butterflies feeding and flying around the tiny but nectar-rich flowers of the lavender. I recorded this video today in the northern, inland part of Istra, the peninsula on which I live. About ninety kilometers from my hometown by the sea.
In the video, you'll see the following species.

  1. Scarce Swallowtail (Iphiclides podalirius)

  2. Large Skipper (Ochlodes sylvanus)

  3. Wall Brown (Lasiommata megera )

  4. Meadow Brown (Maniola jurtina)

  5. Spotted Fritillary (Melitaea didyma)

The music in the video is some beautiful, free - to use stuff that I found on Pixabay.

Apparently adding herbs to your garbage can makes it smell better.
But I don't have thyme for that rubbish.
