Robber flies, also hunting flies are extremely fascinating insects. They usually sit on a raised hide from which they hunt. Their food spectrum includes mainly herbivorous insects that will prey in flight. The prey is held on with the front legs. Stable bristles on the legs help to secure the prey. The venom of predatory flies contains a large number of proteins, most of which have not yet been sufficiently researched. The venom is very efficient and quickly kills or paralyses the prey. The venom contains a digestive secretion that pre-digests the food. For humans, predatory flies are not dangerous.
