A simple oil change has turned into 2+ weeks without my Audi

Car Troubles June 2022.jpg

I miss my baby 😫

It's been a different last few weeks for me. I have been without my car since June 2nd, which has changed how I organize my daily doings. Despite this setback, I have still been doing fantastic and getting out and about on foot. If you're wondering how I am able to remain positive during crappy instances like this, let's just say it isn't always easy. I'm lucky to live where I live and have a body capable of getting me around, despite having been 90°+ this entire time I've been without my ride. I've probably sweated more during this time period than I have in weeks, but it honestly feels so good to be getting outside in the blistering sunlight this much.

The title of this blog sums up the basics of what has happened with my 2009 Audi A4, but I go into greater detail in today's video. It's not all about my car though, I also wanted to add some insight about general life things that may help you advance through tremulous moments that seek to bring you down.

I brought my car to the same shop that I always go to a few weeks back, all I needed was an oil change. They called me after they finished and asked if I wanted to pay $10 extra to get a full inspection since my car has over 160k miles on it now. I said sure why not, I'd rather play it safe with things like these. Of course, they found something wrong that needed to be replaced, I expected this since I've been driving my car pretty hard for nearly 10 years now.

The part needed to do the job had to be ordered from across the country and it took a week to arrive. Once it was finally here and they were able to work on my car, they ended up breaking something else while they were swapping parts. Luckily it's an honest shop and they called me to tell me what happened and said they would be covering the costs of what they messed up.

I was forced to wait a few more days and then finally they called one day and said they had the part and it would be ready by the end of the day. They didn't call me that evening and didn't answer when I called. So I hit them up the next morning to find out that they had broken something else installing the part. Again I had to wait a few days.

I just went over to pick my car up and pay this morning, I was there as soon as they opened up at 7 am. I drove around the block a few times and determined that there was now a new issue that didn't exist before. They got in with me and accepted that something seemed off as well. So as of right now, I am stuck waiting on them to determine what was causing the awful sound coming from the exact area where they had been working.

This suck so much because it is about to be the third weekend that I haven't had my car. I hope that they figure something out by today or tomorrow. I just want things to work out and I'm not letting myself get worked up over it. As I said, I've been managing just fine.

If you care to know more details, just watch my video. I explained everything as best as I could, while also trying to keep things entertaining.

Thanks for all of the support everyone! Without you all, I wouldn't be able to afford all of the pricey repairs for my aging car. I look forward to one day being able to upgrade to something newer, but for now, I am sticking with my Audi and I still love getting behind the wheel of that thing. This car has been so great to me and I believe that we still have a few years left to keep pushing together.

Catch you all in another video tomorrow. I'll be dropping a rare Saturday video since I'll have some extra time tomorrow to film and edit.

It's very sad what happened to the car. I hope you get good news tomorrow and they will fix your car. My dad is very attached to his car so I know how these things feel. I look forward to your video tomorrow, thanks for the advice.

It's crazy because nothing was wrong when I dropped it off. Probably better this happened the way it did rather than me getting stranded in the middle of nowhere because the part decided to break while I was driving. I’m a very patient person, so I managed just fine and ignored my doubts.

You make me wonder what kind of car your father drives.

I think, as you said, the parts that have been worn out due to years of use have broken down while they were trying to change them. My dad and I change the oil ourselves, maybe you should learn to do it too.

My father is a driver by profession, so he has a minibus.0ee63247_b054_4ec7_963e_c1ae39cbbbd1

I got lucky they broke them instead of my driving. Otherwise it would have been extremely costly.
Changing your own oil is a great skill to have! I don’t really have a place to do it and honestly have never wanted to learn how either.

I like that minibus. I can see why your dad loves it so much.

Yes it would cost too much. It is not that hard if one day we change it together again, I will record it for you.
You can't believe that he washes it 3 times a week 😂.

That would be fun man 😎

Okay, I will try it for you :).

Hi daltono good to see you, talking and relaxing among those beautiful landscapes, I'm sorry about your car :( I hope you can repair it soon, sometimes something so simple ends up getting complicated, fortunately you've been able to handle it with patience, I've had to walk a lot too, now I try to enjoy it. I hope you have a good weather when you go for a walk.

I've been talking quite a bit here lately. I am lucky to live in such a beautiful and safe place. Luckily I ended up getting my car back earlier today, but it was several hours after I recorded this video and wrote the post. It was a long time without it, but I'm very happy to have it back. I got used to walking around rather quickly, wasn't too bad. It takes longer than driving and the high temperatures aren't for everyone, but I honestly had a lot of fun and it inspires me to walk more often.

Greetings @daltono.
Your post reminded me when we feel great but we go to see the doctor just for a check up. When we come out we start to feel so sick, heal, our body hurts and everything seems to have changed just by a simple visit. That's why I usually say "I am great, the one that says I am not so is the doctor"

It is very much so with a car. You feel yuor car great, though the work shop people, thinking they are doing you a favour, let you know about preventive maintenance, things that should take a few hours and you end up without your car for quite a bit.
It sounds more like a catharsis situation.
Thanks for sharing.
Take care

You make a great comparison here with the doctor’s office. I think you’re probably right, my car would have continued to drive fine without the mechanics touching it. However after all of this happening and then clearing up now, I’m glad it unfolded the way that it did.

I understand you perfectly. All my life I rode in a car, either my father's or mine, but I never knew what it was like to walk, I never walked a block, I always went by car to the store where I lived. But as an adult and with my family, we had to migrate to another country. Walking, taking a bus, a cab, and it radically changed my life. At home we had many types of cars, even trucks and dump trucks. My father had a transportation company and I work in the mechanical area.

It has not been easy, especially when you have three children that you want to take everywhere, as they did with you. However there are ideas like yours and always a solution. Besides walking is healthy hehe.

The house i grew up in was pretty far from most things, so walking wasn’t really an option. I was lucky to grow up in a family with cars. Then I got my first car at 15 and have been driving since. Now that I live somewhere more walkable, I actually enjoy doing it a lot.

Damn that sucks man! It’s hard not having a car and I’m glad that the shop is being good about the issues without leaving you out to dry. I’ve been there though, fix something and break something in the process lol. Tough part about Audi’s are that the parts aren’t as easy to get ahold of!

Hope you get the whip back soon!

The main issue other than old parts breaking on them while swapping is the whole waiting on the part to arrive. It’s never as easy as calling a local vendor. It’s always coming from far away or it’s overpriced OEM from a dealership.

She’s back on the road now. I can’t believe how in love I still am with driving this car after about 10 years. It’s such a fantastic ride.

You are a calmer man than I. 15 days, I'd be going ballistic at this point. Nice car by the way. I hope this all gets straightened out for you.

I was not always this way. I feel like each year I gain a higher level of calmness than the previous. Literally feels like I’m leveling up in a video game just by doing normal life things.

Things are all good now and my goodness am I happy to be back to driving this thing. Although I’ve been constantly reminded of the fact that there are better rides out there… I saw an RS5 and RS3 this past weekend. So sexy. Plus countless other dope rides. I love looking them over closely and just listening to the drive by. Getting to drive beasts like that would surely be a treat.

Wow it is very cool of them to be honest about breaking something in your car while fixing it, I doubt you get that honesty over here in SA, you will be made to pay for it I can bet on that.

I do hope they get your car fixed to the state it was before you took it to them, good thing you know your car too well, they are unlikely to get away with screwing you up.

That’s what one of my friends was saying. Honesty is hard to come by. It would just be so easy for shops to lie to customers and say this and that to get extra money. The honesty is one of the main reasons I will continue to go back to the place I always go. I am officially back behind the wheel and things are operating smoothly.

Awesome am glad your car is now sorted

Not only is commenting and replying a good habit to exhibit, it helps one's account to grow as well in building relationships, broadening one's friendship circle on the chain, there are lots of upside to engaging and I implore we all put in the effort into that.

I have a feeling you meant to comment this on my video about engagement and not this one about my car. Either way, I agree with you for certain about v how important it is to have these conversations.

Doh! fix one thing, but break 10 things doin it.. :P too bad that 1 guy left..

happiness is a skill u develope.. 😊 never thought of it that way.

I have a feeling if the old guy would have still been there, he wouldn’t have broken anything. Oh well, it’s all good now.

I think we are both happy, but then forget how to be happy. Then we just learn again.

😊😉😎🤙 yup, like sure, there's stuff in life that looks super bad (cough.. crypto!) but I'm off to a little boy's bday party and i bet he isn't anything but happy today!

There is always a reason to be happy, even during the not so great moments.

"Bad news"... THAT is something none likes to get from their mechanic, nurse, doctor or lawyer, and at least they got the job done, over and over again... Sadly the car is still out of action but dont let it hit you so hard bro, you can do a lot, it will be back to rolling soon :)
