Realms: Global domination on the WAX blockchain

A short time ago I was introduced to a new play 2 earn game on the WAX blockchain called Realms. They just finished up the first season of the game and yesterday saw the launch of the second season.

Realms is your basic clicking NFT game. I don't want to say it is mindless, because there is some strategy involved, but for the most part it is pretty easy to pick up and get started with.

You start out in control of Africa. The goal is to increase your reputation by completing missions on the continent. When you get to Rep level 5 you can open up Asia, then North America at level 10, South America at level 15, Europe at level 20, and finally Oceania at level 25. Last season I was able to make it to level 16 or so before the season ended. To be fair though, I got a bit of a late start.

You need NFT cards to play the game. They can be purchased on Atomic Hub here.

These are just a handful of the leader cards you use to manage the continents and to lead missions. Each type of leader gives you a different benefit. The higher the quality of each card (measured in stars), the better benefits you get and the more RLM (in game token) you earn per hour. Increasing your cards level by earning rep and sending them on successful missions also increases your RLM per hour.

Helpers are the pee-ons that you send off on missions lead by leaders. Just as there are a bunch of different type of leader cards, there are also a bunch of different helper cards. Each helper is specifically keyed to a certain type of mission.

If you decide to invest in the game, I wouldn't let that lead your decisions though. I know a guy who just uses the default "worker" card and has purchased zero helper cards. He just churns those guys out like cannon fodder and sends them off to every single mission.

The only drawback to that is the fact that it might take you more tries to complete a mission an therefore more time that you are not increasing your rep and climbing the global leader board until the end of the season.

As you can see, I have only purchased the Solider and Lawyer cards.

Equipment cards have been added starting with Season 2, but I don't own any of those. Likewise, I don't own any boost cards at the moment, but eventually I will be able to purchase some of those with in game resources if I want. Specifically the one that increases you RLM per hour rate for a short period of time.

One of the first things you need to do when you start the game besides assigning a leader to your region is to build a headquarters and the subsequent buildings.

Upgrading your Headquarters allows you to open up building slots to build the other buildings. The factory earns you a specific amount of "resources" (a lesser in game currency) per minute. The storage vault allows you to store those resources. Housing determines how many helpers you can have trained at a time, and the training facility trains those helpers.

The Transport Depot allows you to have a truck, plane, and ship travelling around your continent. These vehicles earn you resources, titanium, and surprise gifts respectively. You can not only increase the level of your transport depot to open each vehicle, you can also upgrade the vehicles individually to increase their yield.

The research lab allows you to increase the statics of your helpers and leaders. Things like training time, training cost, etc.

Finally, the Technology Center allows you to spend Titanium for a chance to buff many of your overall statistics.

As you can see in this screenshot I have my headquarters built and upgraded to level two, but it is still asking me to add a leader to the region on the left hand side.

I've got my essential buildings constructed, but still no leader.

Finally, I have a leader assigned to the Africa region and I also have one of my other leaders embarking on a mission.

As you can see, sending workers out on a mission is pretty easy. You just choose one of the two missions that show up on the continent at any give time, assign a leader, and then move the slider to send out your workers.

This specific mission is a new daily mission that they just created for season 2. Instead of rewarding RLM, Reputation, or Resources, these missions reward surprise gifts. I haven't completed one yet, so I can't tell you what those surprises are yet!

It might be hard to see, but when I select the mission on the right side of the map, it tells me that the preferred type of helper for this mission is a lawyer. That means if I send lawyers, they will have a better chance of completing the mission with a smaller number of them. If I send them and they fail, the requirements are reduced for the next group of helpers that I send out on that same mission.

If on the other hand they are successful, then I earn reputation, experience, resources, and sometimes RLM for completing the mission.

Early on in the game, it can become a bit tough to have the resources you need to grow as fast as you would like. The people who are able to figure that out quickly are no doubt the ones who rise to the top of the leader board pretty quickly.

It becomes a question of whether you want to maximize your RLM earnings or try to get to the top of the leader board.

The higher the level of missions the longer they take to complete. It might feel like a lot of clicking at first, but once you get up to level 15 or so, it is something that you can kind of set and forget for a couple of hours.

Overall, it is a pretty fun game. I put in a relatively small WAX investment and I have been able to play the game with no problem. While investing in the game isn't necessary, it will help you progress a little faster. As you earn RLM, you can use those funds to purchase new cards instead of WAX if you would prefer, so it is kind of self sustaining in that respect. It might take a while, but it is do-able.

I like the fact that the team has added some improvements and bells and whistles for season 2. That tells me they care about the game and they want it to be successful. Sometimes projects just maintain the status quo for so long that people tend to lose interest.

If you are looking for an entertaining game to pass the time and maybe earn a little bit of jingle jangle, then I highly recommend Realms. If you are looking for a challenge with a global leader board and the potential to earn some decent money, then I also recommend Realms.

Either way, it is definitely worth checking out!

Wow, nice job. I found out about it too late to have a chance at anything more than the top 800 or so.

Este proximo top 500 tiene equipamiento como recompensa , almenos terminar ahi es el objetivo😉 , y subir aviones rapido para el titanio y comprar boost de salario 😎

Sounds like a game of global imperialism and little diplomacy. I enjoyed reading your explanation of how it works. Not too difficult but not completely mindless.

Yes on all counts! I am glad you enjoyed it!

I do remember War Games. I loved that movie probably since I worked with computers my whole career. I will have to check out Realms.
