Nice day for a white wedding, with added grot.

Tilstone House, Cheshire.

SPG_9783.jpeg

Was constructed in 1888 as an aristocratic hunting lodge for Sir Gilbert Greenall, of the brewing family.

SPG_9776.jpeg

SPG_9775.jpeg

From 1901, the house was bought and sold by various wealthy families until the final sale in 1997, and the house became one of the foremost wedding venues in the north.

OOPS! Fucking big OOPS!

C,mon
let's mooch

SPG_9781.jpeg

There was a rather large window missing, I could not believe how careless security had become, when I first visited last year, the place then was locked down solid.

SPG_9780.jpeg

8:30pm Sunday 12th January 2020 saw a fire catastrophically damage the building.

SPG_9706.jpeg

Unlike Nero in Rome, Nerys did not continue strumming her strings whilst Tilstone burnt.

SPG_9710.jpeg

SPG_9722.jpeg

SPG_9729.jpeg

SPG_9758.jpeg

Chandeliers in many places undamaged by fire.....

SPG_9708.jpeg

....as was this whole room.

Next room in I could not stay in, it looks like all the salvageable furniture and bits have been stored here, but the stench of ammonia was so overwhelming and powerful, I had to go in and out a few times to catch my breath. Guess something had soaked into the plush carpet on the floor, I do not know. It just was very unpleasant.

SPG_9728.jpeg

Let's get back to the grot, we came here for grot.

Yes?

Of course we did.

SPG_9712.jpeg

SPG_9713.jpeg

SPG_9751.jpeg

This must have been some larder or storeroom off the kitchen, speaking of which.

SPG_9715.jpeg

SPG_9716.jpeg

SPG_9717.jpeg

SPG_9714.jpeg

Considering this was a sumptuous, wedding venue, the kitchen looks cramped and bereft of suitable modern appliances.

SPG_9720.jpeg

SPG_9723.jpeg

Guinness from a can?

I SAID GUINNESS FROM A fucking CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sacrilege, who are these Philistines?

SPG_9718.jpeg

Ooer! Yes please I think we need to look upstairs!

SPG_9750.jpeg

SPG_9736.jpeg

SPG_9742.jpeg

SPG_9732.jpeg

3some anyone?

SPG_9734.jpeg

Haute cuisine, Macadees, a bag of E-numbers and all washed down with a bottle of Budweiser, more commonly known as maidens pee, it is that weak; the mind boggles!

SPG_9772.jpeg

SPG_9761.jpeg

SPG_9757.jpeg

Everything in this place looks so old fashioned, so dated, this would not have been the venue of choice for me if I was looking for a ball and chain!

SPG_9741.jpeg

Right, time for a leap of faith.

SPG_9760.jpeg

Made it!!

SPG_9759.jpeg

I cannot tell a lie, I meekly retraced my footsteps, and found the opposite set of stairs.

SPG_9765.jpeg

SPG_9770.jpeg

SPG_9766.jpeg

Jesus! Bridal Suite, how big a room do you need? A bed and thats about it, a circular one, filled with water maybe. Vibrating mattress and a full mirrored ceiling. Maybe a spa pool, a dance pole and flashing disco lights. maybe a ward robe complete with assorted latex gimp suits, chain and canes

Nurse!
Nurse!
NUUUUUURSE!

More bromide for Mr G please he is going off on one.

SPG_9768.jpeg

It even has a balcony, if the view does it for you, otherwise its perfect for alfresco dining

SPG_9764.jpeg

I think it is a bit late for that to be honest.

SPG_9743.jpeg

SPG_9746.jpeg

SPG_9747.jpeg

SPG_9745.jpeg

SPG_9740.jpeg

Well that is as far as we can go, we have reached the heavens above.

SPG_9749.jpeg

So back out into the daylight

SPG_9779.jpeg

Where I bumped into one of the blushing brides and her maids

SPG_9784.jpeg

Nurse, Nurse, quickly 2 tablets for Mr G. he is at it again

Only partially burnt with very contrasting views! I am getting a little disillusioned recently with all the fails. Its not what it was.

it is like hills and valleys, good days shit days. up and down, keep the glass half full!!!!

There some good stuff in there, like that chandelier. A lot of nice details as well - doors, walls, trim and carvings. It looks like it was a really nice building before the fire. Too bad.

i find that the cause of the fire was down to an electrical fault, poor maintenance? cost cutting?

@grindle - the 3some room looks totally unaffected. great family home if you've got money for gas/electric bills,😲 .. oh and a lick of paint.

yes there were a couple of uncharred rooms @goblinknackers
i admire your positivity "a lick of paint" lol

What an exploration… and great look behind the scenes. The kitchen… it just doesn’t fit the rest. That’s a strange one.
And still so much to find inside, antiques and other interesting furniture and furnishings…

I lived for a while in “anti-kraak” buildings. With other words anti-squad buildings. You protect the building by living there. So no vandals can ruin them. Mostly still have owners in that case.
The largest was a high school… very cool to say the least.
Places like this can be protected, the unburned part. Or other empty places… But it is not well known of in all countries. Looks like here is no protection in place anymore hahaha
But good for us to wander around too 😎 if it is fully abandoned.

thanks @littlebee4 im glad you enjoyed walking with me

You are welcome @grindle 😊

A shame to see such a grand building damaged like that, but cool you got to explore it and share with us

I thought you were even crazier than me talking about the leap of faith, but then you found another way, perhaps in our younger days we both would have seriously considered and taken the leap

a wonderful fun read

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

my jumping days are long gone! lol @tattoodjay!!
A building with no future, will now just rot away

Mine as well my friend
and always a shame to see buildings left to rot away

Now why "Pull" did it require label, I do believe one would work out what to do without instruction on that one! Good old timber like 5th November all over again, no what month was it?

Liked the outside, would have made an awesome venue for vampire parties not weddings, just as well guests never enter the kitchen may have changed their tune.

No !BEER should ever come out of a can, sacrilege I call it!

!LOLZ nice snoop around where old swanker lived....

cheers @joanstewart , i have subsequently found out that the glossy mags said stuff like, dine on fine food sourced from the finest local purveyors of produce in the north west. blah blah blue

In fact they were supplied by a wholesale business, based on an industrial estate near liverpool, which has now gone into liquidation!!!

Liquidation not surprising, happens in a blink of an eye of late!

Modern living is into fake food with fake blood made from beans, where cow poop is used to fertilize, leave them cows alone! Little rant to cheer you up 😁, moral of the story watch what you eat....

great! i shall forgo the sausages for breakfast!!

Safety first never sausages, a steak flashed through hot fire, seal in juicy goodness. Glossy magazine, never believe them pictures!

there is something fantastic about a chunk of cow cooked over flames mmmmmmmmmm!!!!!

Medium-rare caveman style for nutritional value!

What's the difference between a poor man and a feather pillow?
One is hard up, the other is soft down.
