Rural Urbex ; who’s gonna drive you home? ...........tonight December 2020

in Urban Exploration3 years ago

Well a week over the festive holiday visiting friends and family.
Did I escape?
I have to escape,
I must escape.
I did escape.
Yee haw!

My plan was to have a mooch round Predannack Airfield, where a few post 1950’s planes bits n pieces are to be found lying around.

The 23rd was a Misty wet day of mizzle as the locals call it, which gradually turned to ridiculously heavy rain as I was tromping over the moors to evade the military police who patrol the area. After half an hours efforts at my interpretation of tough mudder, I have to say I said “fuck it” I will come back in the summer.

Then stumbling upon a nice old cottage in a place called Fraddam, only to come face to face with catweazle who was lurking in the sheds, owner or squatter, haven’t got a clue couldn’t understand his alcohol infused gibberish I was getting pissed off.

A failed chapel.

Then finally mooching into the grounds of a broken old Edwardian mansion to be challenged by some old bugger on the garage roof, whom I hadn’t spotted asking if he could help me. I thought I’ve had enough, tail between my legs I returned to mine host for some mulled cyder and a mince pie. Ho hum.

I will not be defeated!

What do normal folk do in bed at 7:30am on Christmas Eve?

Me?

I was having a fiddle,
Wearing my fingers to the bone
Scrolling through the web, I came across this.

I had this tingling.
I had good feelings.
Nothing ventured nothing gained
Let’s go mooch!

There was no easy access, no public roads on my approach route this meant a tramp over the moors.

A promising start! That Range Rover looked in pretty good condition to be honest. Got to be at worst £12k worth just sitting being overgrown. WTF!

I knew from maps that there were a few inhabited big dwellings in the vicinity, perhaps my tingles were misplaced!

Battling the gorse bushes and brambles I arrived at the sheds. When you spot a bus with wooden cladding, and some wacky little trucks, it’s gonna be interesting!

I think this is the remains of a late 50’s Cadillac Coupe Deville, £30k fully restored........

Lea Francis Coventry, founded in 1895, wound up in 1962, not really sure what model this is.
But it’s old

By now I had been here an hour or so, was I pushing my luck, I don’t think I had done half of it, let alone what I think was an abandoned house. Trouble was there were also two other big farm houses in close proximity, sounds of horses neighing and voices drifted into my hearing zone.

Thinking I shall return in the spring when I’m next down, I decided to call it a day. I still don’t know if it’s truly abandoned.

Oh fuck it one more shed for luck.

What the heck!!! Looks like you stumbled onto someone's private playground! A couple of those reg numbers might be worth a bit as well.

Exactly what I thought! Very strange

Someones secret car hoard I would say. I haven't seen a finer one than this, the last being Horncliffe Mansion (the cars are still there, the mansion now burnt).

The amount of cars seems staggering and you didn't see all of it? One to truly keep off the radar.

I'm intrigued about your fails, the old bloke on the garage near the Edwardian mansion.. what kind of help.. an entrance fee.. or a beggar?

Yeah I told him I was just wandering round taking snaps of old buildings and this one looked abandoned.
He chuckled saying yes it does but I live here.
Ah well takes all sorts

Hahahaha LOVE the adventure you took. Trespassing and all :) What great cars you got to view!

You reminded me I shall go on more adventures in 2021. Was sitting too much at home because of this miss COVID thingy, with more and more hours each day behind the laptop and screens. Will transform this in the new year... Well, not today... 6 hours in a row on HIVE as we speak, but who cares. The 1st of January is still the transition day between the old and the new year {LOL}

Happy new year to you,
I look forward to seeing your adventures away from the screen!

I may not blog about them. Am soooo bad in taking photographs, and when I do, I tend to forget about them with respect to HIVE... But hey, maybe next time I'll convert something.
