Wünsdorf Part 2 - Urban Exploration on Hive
Here comes part 2 of my report on the several-day excursion to the forbidden city of Wünsdorf (Вюнсдорф). The area had a long military tradition. As early as 1877, an artillery firing range of the Prussian army was located there. From 1910 onwards, more and more barracks and training areas were built in the surrounding forest. The entire site covers an area of over 260 hectares. Some parts of it are still contaminated with ammunition and therefore not accessible.
Hier kommt Teil 2 meines Berichts über den mehrtägigen Ausflug in die verbotene Stadt Wünsdorf (Вюнсдорф). Das Gelände hatte eine lange militärsiche Tradition. Bereits 1877 befand sich dort ein Artellerie Schießplatz der preußischen Armee. Ab 1910 wurden immer mehr Kasernengebäude und Übungsgelände im umliegenden Wald errichtet. Das gesamte Areal hat eine Fläche von über 260 Hektar. Einige Teile davon sind immer noch mit Munition verseucht und somit nicht zugänglich.
Here you can see the theatre in the officers' house, one of a total of three theatres on the grounds. This was the largest of the three and technically the best equipped. In contrast to the other two theatres, this one also has seating and a system for raising and lowering curtains and scenery.
Hier seht ihr das Theater im Haus der Offiziere, eines von insgesamt drei Theatern auf dem Gelände. Dieses war das größte der drei und technisch am Besten ausgestattet. In diesem Theater sind, im Gegensatz zu den anderen beiden, auch noch die Bestuhlung und die Anlage zum hoch- und runterziehen der Vorhänge und Kulissen vorhanden.
Receptions were held in the former riding hall and events were organised for the amusement of the officers.
In der ehemaligen Reithalle wurden Empfänge gegeben und Veranstaltungen zur Erheiterung der Offiziere veranstaltet.
There was also a cinema on the premises. However, not much is left of it. Presumably the entire cinema was dismantled and rebuilt somewhere in Russia.
Ein Kino gab es ebenfalls auf dem Gelände. Allerdings ist davon nicht viel übrig geblieben. Vermutlich wurde das gesamte Kino abgebaut und irgendwo in Russland wieder aufgebaut.
The Soviet army even ran its own radio station on the site to inform and entertain the soldiers.
Die sowjetische Armee betrieb sogar einen eigenen Radiosender auf dem Gelände um die Soldaten zu informieren und zu unterhalten.
What might this machine have been good for? It can't have been important for the war effort. Otherwise they wouldn't have left it there. Obviously they had no more use for it or the machine is broken.
Wozu diese Maschine wohl gut gewesen sein mag? Kriegswichtig kann das Ding wohl nicht sein. Sonst hätten sie es nicht dort gelassen. Offensichtlich hatten sie keine Verwendung mehr dafür oder die Maschine ist kaputt.
Besides the large theatre, the swimming hall with the adjacent boiler house impressed me the most.
Neben dem großen Theater hat mich die Schwimmhalle mit dem angrenzenden Heizhaus am meisten beeindruckt.
Finally, we paid a visit to the open-air swimming pool. It is no longer very inviting. We decided against a swim. It was not really bathing weather.
Zum Schluss haben wir dem Freibad noch einen Besuch abgestattet. Sehr einladend ist das nicht mehr. Wir haben auf ein Bad verzichtet. Es war eigentlich auch kein Badewetter.
It was a very impressive but also exhausting excursion to the forbidden city. Next time I'll take my bike with me.
Das war ein sehr beeindruckender, aber auch anstrengender Ausflug in die verbotene Stadt. Das nächste Mal nehme ich mein Fahrrad mit.
