The Red Wall that Inspired Squid Game | 给《鱿鱼游戏》带来灵感的红楼房

Have you heard of La Muralla Roja? Literally meaning The Red Wall, this iconic masterwork is located at the seaside in Calp, Spain's Costa Blanca. Yes, the famous vitamin sea and sun coast... and btw, the term Costa Blanca was coined by British European Airways to promote its flights.

La Muralla Roja was said to have inspired last year's hit Korean TV series Squid Game... noticed the staircases patrolled by masked guards in the series?

The impressive building is actually an apartment complex designed by the Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill in 1968. Sadly, this celebrated pioneer of postmodernism just passed away at the beginning of this year, when I happened to be visiting the Costa Blanca. The city Calpe has designated 2023 as "Bofill Year" to honor his contributions.

The building's postmodern reinterpretation of the typical North African casbah reference appeals to me. Meanwhile, traditional elements such as courtyards and staircases remained. The complex's design has also incorporated 13 geometric Greek crosses, which can be seen clearly from the top. Its simple cement structure suggests a brutalist style. Remember this architectural movement I talked about in some previous posts?

It includes fifty apartments and amenities such as two stores, a sauna, a restaurant, a solarium, and a rooftop swimming pool. I saw residents going in and out from time to time, and visitors can stay in one of the apartment hotels there.

Walking around the building, I could feel the gentle breeze from the Mediterranean, and the sunset over the sea and the walls was fantastic. The vibrant colours of the walls echo the hues of the sky, water, and earth, which I believe is a common consideration in many architectural designs.

Pink, blue, and violet paints are also used on The Red Wall, despite its name. The subsidiary courtyards are pink, the central courtyards are blue, and the rest are painted violet. I also enjoyed looking at how the colours of the same walls gradually changed. Their hues appeared different as time went by, due to changes in sunlight and skylight.

今天来分享自己拍摄的这栋独特建筑的外观，同时也参加Deranged主题为“楼房”的摄影活动。

La Muralla Roja直译的意思是“红墙”，其实是栋居民楼，有三种户型，其中也有几间是旅馆可供游客预定。整栋楼房除了深深浅浅的红，还能看到蓝紫等颜色的墙面，分别和周围海天大地的色调相呼应。建筑的同一外墙也随着时间的推移，在太阳天光的变化下，呈现出不同的色泽。

我是正好经过红楼房所在地卡尔佩，就顺路到这里看看这栋网红楼，没打算进去各种摆拍（里面有所谓的梦幻阶梯和十字形天台泳池，哪位美女/男想进去拍片欢迎联系我，顺便帮我订间房XD），所以并没有提前预订旅馆，只在外面走了走看了看。附近还有其他公寓楼，海景和日落也很美。
