Hive Naija Community Leaders Initiative Monthly Report for June 2020

The Hive Naija community was established with the aim of promoting, encouraging and rewarding Nigerian content creators. Through our weekly initiatives, we encouraged people to post in the community, and outside but most importantly, we wanted them to show Hive in a positive light.

In the past four weeks, we've hosted weekly initiatives where a total of 60 Hive has been awarded to the participants. Our initiatives vary from normal life activities like sharing stories about Secondary School to the most recent one which featured a community-based initiative where people shared ideas about how Hive can be used in the society.

The idea behind these initiatives is to foster camaraderie within our members and to increase engagement in the community. In this month we have seen a rise in the number of subscribers from 90 at the start of June, to 155 at the start of July. This rise has been largely thanks to the effort of everyone in the community that has done the most to improve engagement and activities in the community.

The Initiatives

My Favourite Authors

We encouraged people to write about their favourite Authors around the community and also outside the community. The idea behind this initiative was to use Hive as a medium to hear about the said Authors, and hopefully onboard a few of them that are not with us.

Tell A Story In Pidgin English

In Nigeria, we have a local version of English that is commonly spoken, and so in this initiative, we encouraged people to write any sort of story using the language. The idea behind this was to have fun but at the same time, it sent the message that people can simply be themselves on the blockchain. It was also an opportunity to showcase our thing to the larger society.

Secondary School Story

This one was simple; tell us about your secondary school days. It doesn't have to be a perfect story and no pressure, just sit back and talk about your secondary school days. Through this prompt, we had people talking about their secondary school days and one interesting thing we noticed was that even people from outside the country also shared some of our experiences, particularly with their Maths teachers. Why are they always so difficult? lol

Hive In The Society

Just in case you have been seeing people talking about Hive in the society, it is actually our latest prompt. This initiative has given people freedom to showcase their ideas about Hive as a cryptocurrency, blockchain, social media or anything else they view it as can be used in some way to improve society.

The rewards for these initiatives are funded by individuals who take interest in the topic and so far, we have given away up to 60 Hive in rewards thanks to donations from; @belemo @nonsowrites @mistakili.

Our activities have also caught the attention of curie curators, because entries in the contest have been getting small votes. The point is that we have been able to create an avenue for people to express themselves on the blockchain, while bringing some value in through their posts and activities.

Pick of The Week

Other than our weekly initiatives, the hive Naija is also focused on showcasing the work that members of the community are doing outside the community. Here are the picks of the week for the past month;
Week 1
Week 2
Week 3
Week 4
Each Week, we identified authors making great content and showcased their work in this weekly posts.

Account growth and curation

Thanks to supporting from members of the society, we currently have 441 HIve power to upvote, with 300HP of it delegated to the community. The community account also has a small curation trail where we support content from our authors on the community page.

The Account exclusively powers up every Hive and HBD earned from tips and posts. This will be done for the foreseeable future. We hope to get to a point where we can also give a decent upvote to our members, and even spread the love to the larger community.
