HIVE-NAIJA: NO ROOM FOR SHITTY POSTS

in Speak Peace3 years ago

There has been a long debate on hive over the years about quality and many people have different views on what makes a quality post. For me, it is about two things: effort and sincerity.

EFFORT

When I pick up my phone to write a post I always have an idea in mind. On occasions where I don't have an idea and I just want to write, one or several ideas come to mind randomly and I type them. I understand for me writing comes easily and for a lot of people it is more of a struggle, however this doesn't permit subpar work.

It is quite easy to spot a lazy post and a writer posting for upvotes. Usually sure posts lack depth and are often short. I am sorry but if you aren't writing poety you post shouldn't be less than 250 words (that's my take). Yes, there are cases where an author can be brief and still drive home his point(s). However, most of these poorly written posts seem pointless.

_What message are you trying to convey?

What feelings are you trying to invoke?

What are your points/facts?

You should answer these questions with every post. In fact, the first paragraph of your post should highlight these things. Learn to structure your content. It doesn't have to be anything grand.

An introduction

Body

Conclusion

That's the formula I use. For everyone who did english language, essay writing to be precise, you must have come across this formula. This is a simplistic way of structuring your content.

Edit your work

This is the hardest part for me because I suck at proofreading. It is even more stressful than writing itself for me but it is very important as your audience needs to make sense of what you wrote. I suggest reading your content out loud before posting. Asides spotting errors, It is easy to spot sentences that doesn't sound right and need some adjustments this way. This helps improve the readability of your content.

SINCERITY

As a content creator you must be sincere to yourself and your audience. It makes the writing process easy. Use your own words, your own experiences, places, ideas, etc. It is difficult writing about something you have little or no knowledge about. I believe everyone here has something they are passionate about, talk about it. Share your experience and thoughts. It is one of the easiest ways to connect with people. I understand it might make you look vulnerable but I would rather look vulnerable than stupid.

I read about not too long ago about how thirrld world countries citizens flood platforms with their subpar content. I was honestly offended by that statement and even more so when I see my fellow country(wo)men fitting that stereotype. The truth is you aren't going to make anything decent with those kinds of posts. It is a complete waste of your time. So it's best you stop posting all together and find something or some place you can impact positively.

A few days ago, in the spirit of independence (or whatever you want to call it), I decided to honest a contest and it quite sad that most of the posts didn't cut it at all. Now, I want to make it clear here that this community isn't one that supports mediocrity and we won't support or promote lazy work. If honestly you want to earn from writing than you should know how to write or learn at least. There are a million and one ongoing conversations on various social platforms, pick one that matches your interest. It is easy to write on things you care about.

So there will be no reward for the independence day contest. If there are any worthwhile posts during this week's prompt then we will disburst the prize of 50hive. Remember it is a criteria to share your posts on twitter. If your posts is good and we can not find a shared link of it on twitter you will be disqualified.

I want to say a big 'thank you' to everyone who has supported this community. We greatly appreciate. I am just one voice out of five. Other group leaders may see things differently but this is my stance on the matter of quality.

You nailed it: "As a content creator you must be sincere to yourself and your audience. I understand it might make you look vulnerable but I would rather look vulnerable than stupid."

These are the ingredients to good writing. And you know this.

well, it is quite apparent that if you want to thrive as a content creator you should consider these elements...

Well said. As a content creator or a blogger, our first goal here should focus on quality. If we put effort and sincerity in what we write, and bring up quality contents, the reward would follow up.

I am sure you must have your reason for not giving out 5 hive for the independence day contest. I haven't read through the post there but as you have mentioned, I would go there to read them maybe I can understand why the reward was cancelled.

Good writing brother 🙂.

I admire your stance on quality. It's hard to do, but someone has to do it.
