Greetings friends of #hiveopenmic. It is a pleasure to be with you again participating as usual in these meetings where voices and melodies show off in their different interpretations. This time I bring you a song dedicated to all the fathers of the world "Cuando Quería Ser Grande" popularized in the voice of Vicente Fernandez. This week #63 "Cuentacuentos" (Storytelling) is a perfect fit for its content that goes through the experience of many parents where the children want to go after their dreams, protect them and take care of them in their advanced age.

"Vicente Fernández Gómez was born on February 17, 1940 in the Mexican town of Huentitán el Alto, in Jalisco. His family was of humble class and since he was a child he was forced to work in different trades to earn some money and be able to survive with dignity. Nothing in his origins or ancestry foretold that over the years he would be known as El charro de Huentitán and would receive from his admirers such laudatory adjectives as El rey de la canción ranchera (The king of the ranchera song).

Little Chente, as he was familiarly known at the time, had clear ideas: his idol was the ranchera singer and actor Pedro Infante, whose movies he devoured at the cinema. He wanted to be like him, and at the age of eight he began to strum the guitar and sing the rancheras he heard on the radio. The beginnings were not easy: he had to combine music with survival, be willing to perform on the most precarious stages and take advantage of the smallest opportunity to make himself known, even in small circles or in amateur competitions.

At the age of 21, while performing at the restaurant Amanecer Tapatío (singing both on stage and between the tables), he debuted on the television show La Calandria Musical, where he earned his first salary as a singer: 35 pesos. This made him consider his professional future and he decided to leave his other activities to become a singer and actor. With this goal in mind, he moved to Mexico City and performed for a season in the Mariachi Amanecer band.

After these concerts, Vicente Fernández participated in the Mariachi Aguilar group with Felipe Arriaga and performed at the Blanquita Theater in Mexico. He also started working at Televisa, where he met Raul Velasco, and began to be appreciated and known by the public. His career took off definitively when the CBS label offered him a contract and he recorded his first album, El Fabuloso Vicente Fernández (1965), and would reach a first high point with ¡Arriba Huentitán! (1972), which contained the most universal of his greatest hits: Volver, Volver."

<WHEN I WANTED TO BE GREAT/Manuel Flores Monterrosas

They are getting lost in time
My years, they are getting far away
My father no longer holds my hand
Only his advice

My childhood memories live on in me
When I wished for a star
How I remember my father
Who with that smiled
While my mother watched

Years that come slowly, first
How slowly they come
How I wanted to be big, I remember
So I wouldn't stay at home

And accompany my father far away
Maybe to the end of the world
Because my father was strong
He was very intelligent, he was better than any other

Today I don't want the years to pass
Because my father is already old
His hands are covered with wrinkles
And his hair is covered with snow

Oh, Lord, stop the time, I pray you
Because You can do it
For I truly do not understand
My God, why the good things go from us

When your steps get tired
I want to be the one who takes care of them
In the meantime, give me your arm
And let's see what you are going to tell me.

Cómo recuerdo a mi padre
