Tradition is a way of life or at least the way most people live and for this week's theme “local traditions”, I knew that I wanted to sing something Nigerian.

8DAuGnTQCLptZgjHUrRAJGcW4y1D4A5QVJJ7zjzqqKdfVHSS6NapSCC8BmeEpY8wciwfdbzb4GYSoHWKvDcReazcfb7uWicYogpb5x7RrWBZuazT4cK89um6NybysMR5kMLddmAEJxzqceV976YXAYhSWGe6GjjcputDLMi86kE.png

I considered singing a language song but there are over 525 local languages in Nigeria, so that was a bit complicated and since I don’t speak my language which is Ijaw, I decided to go for a song that had pidgin English which is more or less a unified language here.

Growing up, I never really spoke pidgin English, my father always wanted me to speak proper English but, as I got older, I got to learn and even though I am not good at it, I think I tried here.

I decided to sing a song by Simi who is a Nigerian and the song is titled love don’t care.

The reason I chose this song is because even though the song doesn’t speak on our traditions deeply, it kind of brings insight into what most Nigerians face when they fall in love or want to get married.

A lot of Nigerian parents are very involved in their children’s lives including their love lives and most times, they have preferences on where they want their children to marry from or not, what profession, etc. and when their children protest, you get the line “you know that I know better”.

This song talks about a girl who receives a call from her mother asking her what she is doing with an “omo Igbo' and why she couldn’t find someone from Yoruba instead of Igbo; both are tribes in Nigeria.

She also receives a call again from her father asking her why she was with a teacher when there are bankers and her reply is “love doesn’t care about all those things”.

This song is so special to me and I relate to the fact that love doesn’t care about race, tribe, skin colour, or all that; love is love.

Anyways, for this song, I teamed up with my friend Winnie and I hope you enjoy watching this as much as we enjoyed singing, thank you.

LYRICS: LOVE DON’T CARE BY SIMI

Mama call me o
Just the other day
She said, "Hello, hello, I'm talkin' to you, baby
Somebody call me, he come dey tell me say
He see you with omo Igbo, tell me, are you crazy?"
Girl, are you foolish?
Shey Yoruba don finish o?
Wetin you dey do with Okoro?
Girl, I'm your mother
You know that I know better o
But my mama don't know

That love don't care
Who you be, where you dey from
Love don't care at all
Love don't care
Who you know, wetin you get o
Love don't care at all

Papa call me o
Just yesterday
He said, "Hello, hello, how you doing baby?
Your brother call me
He come dey tell me say
He see you with Mr. John, tell me, are you crazy?"
Girl, are you foolish?
Shey banker don finish o?
Wetin you dey do with teacher?
Girl, I'm your father
Your opinion doesn't matter
But my papa don't know

That love don't care
Who you be, where you dey from
Love don't care at all
Love don't care
Who you know, wetin you get o
Love don't care at all

If I love you, if I love you
No be wetin you be, baby
Lo'mu ori mi wu (lo'mu ori mi wu)
Love o
Make I see your love o

LYRICS: LOVE DON'T CARE BY SIMI

Mamá llámame o
El otro día
Me dijo: "Hola, hola, estoy hablando contigo, nena
Alguien me llama, viene a decirme que
Te ve con omo Igbo, dime, ¿estás loca?"
Chica, ¿estás loca?
Shey Yoruba don finish o?
¿Qué has hecho con Okoro?
Chica, soy tu madre.

A quién conoces, a quién tienes
Al amor no le importa nada

Papá me llama o
Ayer mismo
Me dijo: "Hola, hola, ¿cómo estás nena?
Tu hermano me llamó
Chica, soy tu padre
Tu opinión no importa
Pero mi papá no sabe

Que al amor no le importa
Quién eres, de dónde vienes
Al amor no le importa nada
Al amor no le importa
A quién conoces, wetin usted consigue o
Al amor no le importa nada

Si te quiero, si te quiero
No be wetin you be, baby
Lo'mu ori mi wu (lo'mu ori mi wu)
Amor o
Haz que vea tu amor o

I just knew someone would do this song .. glad it was you, or well, the both of you. Beautiful rendition..your voices are amazing, they matched each other perfectly, nice one Khaleesii

Thank you so much, it is such an amazing song not to do.

Big madam.. nice performance. I really enjoyed watching the video. I like your friend's vibe, she sings well. You should bring her to Hive and be a good friend.

Thank you so much, she doesn't have time for hive actually plus she doesn't like the stress in it.

Yeah hive is stress. And I don't think in the coming months or even weeks I would not have the time to be here always again.

Yeah, and she is a fashion designer so she has to put loads of her time there.

I don't even know how ill keep up if I get a job.

Wow sister! What a beautiful duo you have brought, with a very beautiful song both melodically and lyrically.
That control with children is something that many cultures have, it's quite rare hahaha. I didn't know there were so many languages in Nigeria! 😱 Shocking.
Thank you for this beautiful music and angelic songs. 🙏😃⭐🎉💥🎶🙌🎵🎵💯🤗🤘👏👏🍻🎼

The languages here are crazy, for example, in my state we have over five that I can count.

The control over children by parents is crazy and it is truly worldwide.

Thank you so much for watching @naradamoon
