A Recycled Gift for a Friend

in Silver Bloggers2 years ago

Hello my Silvery friends...It's been awhile since I've posted anything on Hive.
Life does seem to get in the way at times, springing up with little surprises, some bad and some good.
What can I say... I'm getting back on track and ready to move forward.

While in Cape Town, my daughter Angela took me to this quaint little shop in Melkbosch on the West Coast where they live called, "Blessings", where I bought a recycled gift for my dear friend @lizelle.

She was very excited about it and told me the #BOM for this month happens to be "Recycling"...Well!...a light bulb went off in my head as I didn't know where to start back on Hive, having taken so many pictures and all; I thought this would be a perfect time to share my experience in this little "Recycling" shop called "Blessings".

This little shop inspired me so, it made me realize how wonderful recycling actually is and how creative one can make it.

I must admit, I'm not always good at recycling my empty bottles and stuff, a few glass bottles here and there kept in the cupboard, a few plastic containers used for my gardening seeds, other than that, everything got turfed out... well that was before I was "converted" to recycling... omg!...after my visit to Cape Town, I'll be looking at my throw aways in a different...maybe in a more creative light Lol!.

The lady who owns the shop told me that everything in the shop is recycled, from the tables and chairs to the pictures on the walls.

Even the planter box is an old used bucket, giving the place a homely old world feel to it.
The cakes and sweets are all home made and sold in recycled bags and bottles.

As the owner is a "Lavender and Olive Tree Farmer", they make quite a lot of products from olives and lavender, like oils and creams.

The gift I bought for my friend was homemade, "Lavender Cream" and a "Macrame" made from recycle material.

wrapping.jpg
I was most surprised when I asked for it to be gift wrapped, the Lady wrapped it in a beautiful recycled cloth, something I would never have thought of, it was so amazingly different from the ordinary paper gift wrap we buy. I just love the idea.

While I was waiting I couldn't help notice a gift wrapped in a beautiful recycled bag tired with lavender on a recycled table, waiting to be picked up by another customer.

cookie sale.jpg
I was so mesmerized by the beautiful recycled goodies in this shop, my family had to drag me out. Oh man!....my brain was working over time Lol!

This little shop had the most gorgeous handmade items for sale and well priced too.

happiness is home made.jpg
Happiness is most definitely Homemade
I was told, on a friday night, this little place comes alive and buzzes, with the fire going and musicians playing music, a hearty homemade meal can be had at such a good price too.

blessings 2.jpg
They have two fires going, one inside and one outside, depending on the weather.
Can't wait to go back and experience the vibrancy of the place on a Friday night, I can only imagine what it must be like, with the music playing, the aroma of the homemade food cooking and the people chatting and enjoying themselves, a place for family and friends to gather.

bread.jpg
On my way out I bought some homemade bread to make sandwiches for lunch, I didn't get to make anything with it as it was devowed to quickly by hungry mouths.

So Silver Mamma Chef made her homemade pie for dinner, Hehe!

Well that was my contribution to #BOM on Recycling, hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have sharing it with you.

Hi, @artywink! I love places like this shop. It's so cool the idea of wrapping gifts with recycled pieces of fabric.
I hope everything is going well over there.
Good luck in the BOM. Cheers!

Thank you @coquicoin everything is fine, hit a few bumps, but all is well thanks. Cape town is my favorite place on earth, there are so many of those little shops there, just awesome.
Thanks for stopping by.

I'm glad that despite the bumps, all is well.
If there are many places like this one, I would love Cape Town for sure. 😊

Nice post @artywink, that place was awesome, I would love to visit.
I have been recycling since the late 70s and love to repurpose and refinsh old furniture.
If we all just do our small part, we can make a difference.
We only have one home, planet Earth 🤗

Hi my friend, I loved my special gift, it's now hanging on our verandah with Mom's dried proteas in it.
I'm so glad you had this unexpected break. If it wasn't for the cold winters and the wind, I'd move to Cape Town any day, love it!
That shop looks so quaint, I'm sure it's given you some ideas and you'll be looking at making pretty artwork with recyclable items.

the Lady wrapped it in a beautiful recycled cloth

How cool was that!
What a quaint place, I love those tiles, and how thoughtful you are to get a gift like that for your friend:)
I think I would have a field day in there!

Thanks @tengolotodo, I just wish we could've stayed a little longer to sit by the fire and listen to live music, but next time, I hope.
Thank you for stopping by.

The live music would be great in a place like that, and eat some of their grub while you're at it:)

Such a beautiful place to wander around and see what they have. I like to recycle and upcycle myself. The things you can use.
It always is so much better handmade by the little local shops too.
Beautiful gifts 😁 perfectly wrapped!
Happy Monday 👋🏻☀️

What a beautiful place and I love the wrapping! We recycle fabric and ribbons to reuse for wrapping. It is so fun to do! And beautiful. Sometimes I buy wedding dresses at the thrift shop when they are marked down to under $10.oo and make christening gowns to baptize babies. I take the leftover lace to decorate packages or pieces of nature.

I love all your ideas and who doesn't love to recycle?

Good luck!

Thank you @dswigle I've learnt so much from that little shop. I'm going to recycle in a creative way from now on. I love your idea of turning wedding dresses into christening gowns, that's so awesome. Have a great day and thanks fir stopping by. See you in Market Friday Lol.

That place is so gorgeous! and there are really a lot of ways to recyle and making things beautiful again :)

Very nice shop. Thanks for sharing the pictures. Why not recycle and upcycle. I got made fun of for buying clothes from a resale shop. I said they're new to me. I think it is super creative to find ways to reuse stuff.

It looks like a very interesting place with lots of ideas for reusing items rather than throwing them away.
