Happy Dog, Happy Life .. Except On Haircut Day

Haircut Day (1).png

Not One Of Her Favorite Activities ..

If you asked Molly, and she could actually speak Human, she would say without any hesitation that "Haircuts SUCK!"

That's the plain and simple of it. Molly hates getting her hair cut, but these things need to be done for our sake and hers. We've all seen Shih Tzu's with the hair down to the floor.. you know, the long flowing mops running around with the hair that drags the floor. And to top it all off, they sport tiny bows at the tops of their heads, holding all that hair out of the eyes. Yes, we are NOT those people. It would be cool if we were, but lets be honest.. we would be lazy and not brush all that hair, then soon Molly would be one giant, knotted ball of fluff. Not a pretty picture.

So we stick to what we know, what we can handle, and face the reality we are living. We let the fancy stuff to the professionals!

And Thus Today Is Haircut Day :(

Well.. really last week was haircut day

The Day Came Without Warning ..

Molly had no idea that today was haircut day. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, not a cloud in the sky! And Molly was her chipper morning self. One may not notice the subtle mood changes this girl goes through, but having spent so much time with her over the years, we notice a good day from a bad one. Today was a good day! But not for long...

Out Come The Tools!

Fear and Anxiety Set In.

There Is Nowhere To Hide!!!

Disclosure .. Old photo. Just too cute not to include in todays post :) Hair actually doesn't look too bad in this shot

I begin the process of cutting Molly's hair .. And it's relatively boring. The gentle hummmmmm of the battery operated clippers, the occasional squeak of the freshly tightened scissors, and a few moments of frustration that could be heard at the most farthest and isolated spots in the house. Even through the sound of those chattering K-9 teeth (the tiny few she has left), we pushed on and never gave up hope that this all would be over as quickly as it started.

IMG_8088.JPG

The Bulk Of The Trauma Was Over ..

And Molly was not happy that Dad took so much of her precious hair from her tiny little body..

IMG_8089.JPG

MOLLY: Why Daddy? Why did you do that? Why today.. why now.. why so much hair?

DADDY: Why so many questions Molly? Well I will tell you "why".. BECAUSE YOU NEEDED IT!!!!

hehehe

One Last Clip Here, and One Final Snip There ..

And TADA!

IMG_E8091.JPG

IMG_E8097.JPG

It was rough at times, but we survived! .. Even though I am trying to make this post funny and amusing, the haircut actually did go very well. She usually puts up more of a fight when cutting the paws and face, but not too bad this time. My grooming skills are improving, and things are not as choppy as they once were. There is still a lot of practice needed before I call my work beautiful, but Molly doesn't know any better.

She always seems to exude an air of confidence after all is said and done. It is almost like she is a little more happy. Definitely lighter on her feet!

And Every Job Well Done Deserves A Treat!

Good puppies deserve a little cold stuff for their hard work and efforts..

“Rushing into action, you fail.
Trying to grasp things, you lose them.
Forcing a project to completion,
you ruin what was almost ripe.
Therefore the Master takes action
by letting things take their course.
He remains as calm at the end
as at the beginning.
He has nothing,
thus has nothing to lose.
What he desires is non-desire;
what he learns is to unlearn.
He simply reminds people
of who they have always been.
He cares about nothing but the Tao.
Thus he can care for all things.”

You have a nice haircut kit there buddy! I recently had to start cutting Nadi's hair on her own because the doggy beauty salon I took her too just wasn't there one day. I'm not very good at it and I only have the one tool - the electric trimmers.

Nadi is very well behaved but of course really doesn't like the clippers getting close to her face. I really struggle with the ears and feet - how am i supposed to get in-between these tiny toes?

She tolerates it though because she knows the treats will be a flowin' after we finish. She normally ends up looking silly but you know, dogs don't care what they look like.

Wow, I didn't know you were cutting her hair now. Tell you the truth it's been a while since I've been over to your blog so I'll have to check it out because I'm sure you wrote about it.

Hope you have been well otherwise.

We enjoyed many years of dropping Molly off to the groomer, but our groomer retired and that was that. It's hard to find a good one and on top of that one that wouldn't make her more nervous than she already is. Given her age and medical condition we decided just to do it ourselves. This way we don't have to deal with endless diarrhea after she gets home due to the stress. Sounds fun doesn't it!? Lol.

Give Nadi a nice pat on the head and some ice cream for Molly and I!

well i haven't been terribly active and that is why I haven't been commenting about Molly's cuteness in a while either.

I don't know how much longer I will be able to keep up with the grooming. I'm terrible at it but yeah, the lack of stress thing might actually make it all worthwhile.

I bought a nicer set of scissors and they work pretty well for between the paw pads and what not. I also use the clippers ever so carefully, but mine are adjustable. So I just back them off a little and lightly take the bulk of it away. Anyhow... I did a lot of my learning from YouTube. lol.

Since her disease feeds off stress, we thought it best.. plus she's 14 years 16 months and 11 days old! hehe. Why put her through yet another change.

The things we do to make our floofters comfortable. You ever tried one of those nail cutters that is rotary and can "detect" the quicks?

Yeah tell me about it!
No.. Didn't know something like that existed..

Poor Molly! But she looks so much better, and she sure enjoyed her reward.

She looks so much better! I totally agree. And she really enjoys the ice cream. She wants it every night now, but given her age and lack of appetite most days, we give it to her. How can I say no!? Lol.

Yeah, I did the same with my old cat. When they get that old, just make them as happy as you can...

Looking pretty good to me! Jovi is always curious when I clip my own hair each week, but she always runs away when I point the clippers in her direction . She thinks she is brave but really she isn't!

Lol. You had me laughing with that comment. I can just picture Jovi taking off. Smart I guess, but when you need to do some thing in the future, I guess you'll think that's a pain in the butt. Then you'll be yelling why are you running! Lol. Now if the dog was holding those clippers and pointed them at you you would run to I think. Hehehehehe

Oh, you are totally right there. My wife gets so pissed at me because she can never get Jo to come to her for anything. She says this is your fault for chasing her around all the time! I guess it's not just the clippers!

Awesome I was going to say and now Molly looks cute, but of course she always looks cute, so Molly looks even cuter now!

Great job and you totally have the hang of it now!

Hahaha. Yeah she's pretty cute for being an old lady. I'm getting the hang of it slowly but surely. It's still frustrating, but that's because she gets nervous and wants to takeoff somewhere. If she would stay calm we could get through it much quicker. I've learned to give her breaks along the way. Instead of making her suffer through such a long ordeal.

hehe yeah the cure old lady.
Yes best way is to do in little spurts.

When we also get a haircut, a day or two after the haircut, a person's face looks very puffy and small. But molly looks so cute even after the haircut. After cutting hair, a person's head would become lighter. You have done well to keep all the equipment at home and cut her hair yourself with utmost care.

Ha ha! Her head is definitely lighter. She does pretty good with the haircuts. So do I. Lol. I'll be doing it again soon I'm sure. I invested in the equipment because we can't take her to a groomer anymore. With her medical conditions she really can't go through that.

Gorgeous after the haircut, hiding always part of the game, even washing dogs they disappear yet once finished you are their best friend once again.

Mine get a cold treat in black tripe after enduring so much pain and suffering !LOLZ

Black tripe? Is that stomach? I don't know if I've ever seen it cold. But that works! Yes we gave her a bath tonight because she needed it. She had an accident 😕. Part of getting older I suppose.

Black tripe is uncleaned stomach, I cut into small blocks and deep freeze, summer treat like an ice lolly, winter I set out on sideboard to defrost for enjoyment later in the day.

Accidents do start to take their toll the older we all get !LOLZ

A book just fell on my head.
I only have my shelf to blame.

Three?! Wow. That's crazy. One is enough for me to cut. Another three weeks probably. We might be able to stretch of the four.

I know, she’s crazy. Sometimes she takes them to the groomers and for a while she even considered doing a training and make it a living. Although she has many ideas 😉

Ahhh.. I hear you. I know I would not want to do it for a living. Not my thing. I do what I have to but would rather not. Many ideas type person.. lol. Some people are happy that way.. always bouncing around looking for their happiness. Best wishes to her. 😁

I need those crazy people in my life 😁
