Throwback Thursday on a Friday

in Silver Bloggers3 years ago (edited)

Over a year ago, on that other social platform, and keeping a promise to a friend from uni, I posted this photo of some of the bunch of us who went on a spring seaside vacation. It was 1982.

Then other photos appeared, some I had never seen. Like this one.

Oh, what advice I'd give that 20-year old self!

He and I are still in touch. We saw each other for the first time when he and C visited the village about 5 years ago. We forgot the obligatory selfie, so when the family spent a weekend in the valley, and popped in at the market, we did. I subsequently cobbled together this collage.

D is a dedicated collector of jars. Before Covid, and folk working from home was mostly mandatory, he roped in the staff in the corporate head office where he works, to collect them for me. He still does and the last "consignment" arrived with Selma and Andre last week. Some of them will be filled with marmalade today. This is the second batch of three fruit marmalade in a month. It's the most popular of the marmalade I make. D is also one of my best customers. Somehow, we manage to organise deliveries or exchanges even though he's not technically local....

For some reason, some of those 1982 photos popped up again. This must be one of, if not, the first ever photo of me in a kitchen.

Somewhere, there's a photo of me flipping pancakes, in the res (dorm) common room. The point is, though, that my enjoyment of cooking goes way back, and before I really could... Actually, the following year, when the BF of the moment had started working, I used to visit during my vacations. I'd happily cook - virtually every evening for him and his housemates.

Those were happy, carefree days. That was one of the best ever holidays and memories, ever.

So, although this is a throwback Thursday post on a Friday, it's also a tangential nod to @gvkanten's Food Friday as part of Traci's #HiveBloPoMo.

Oh and given the "historical" nature of this post, it's also my inaugural contribution to @lizelle's new community for Hive Silver Bloggers. No, it's not just about old people's stuff, so go and check it out.

Until next time, be well

Ah! The memories stay with us over time Lady Fiona and somehow we remember only the good times. Yes, the bad ones are also there somewhere, but they are reserved for bad occasions.
You certainly looked lovely in 82 and sadly I have lost all of my photos and other keepsakes that I kept in a case during a burglary.

Stay well my friend and one day I will learn how to cook 🤣

Blessings and have some !BEER

When we look back, I think we all looked lovely! I don't have many photos from that time and those that I do, are in an old shoe box. The majority in this post are from other folk on that vac vac holiday via that other social platform. I admit that posting them there and mostly here, is way of not losing them.

That was a long way to saying how sad to have had your photos stolen. At least you have the memories.

Thanks for stopping by!

Oh yes, posted here they will indeed last.
Not only my photos were taken, as they cleaned us out and it was a horrible experience to arrive back at home and to find basically only the furniture and the curtains left. No bedding and all of the cupboards and wardrobes empty.
But such is life.

Hope that your weekend is good.

That is too awful! I am sorry to hear that. Hope all's sorted now, and you have a good weekend.

Oh, it happened a few years ago my friend and we have fully recovered except for the personal stuff.
But such is life.

Blessings.

And to you.

Those were the days my friend
We thought they'd never end...

Oh and did we sing and dance back then!
The guys liked showing off their legs back then hey;)
Lovely memories here Fiona and thank you so much for sharing it here as your very first post for Hive Silver Bloggers
Please help me, I can be really DOF at times, but I've been trying to do a blog a day for April for the very first time, think at times I went past midnight so not sure how it works, but was I supposed to use this #hiveblopomo?
Anyway it doesn't matter as I've enjoyed finding different topics!

Oh, yes, those short shorts! We all wore them 🤦🏼‍♀️

Yes, you should be using #HiveBloPoMo 😉

You can always go back and edit...

Traci doesn't check on that: it's really up to the participants. I find the Hivebuzz board useful and that works on a UTC/GMT for each 24 hour cycle.

Don't stress. If you can't, you can't. It happens in November again.

Have a good weekend.

Thanks Fiona! It's quite chilly suddenly, I can just imagine must be really cold down your way already, enjoy your weekend too!

It's not that cold - yet, Lizelle. That said, we were well layered for the market this morning and stayed rugged up until about 10. Now the sun's out. I admit, winter can stay. I'm revelling in the glorious autumn weather. Especially as we were robbed of it last year.

Stay warm and happy weekend!
