The Singing Cape Robin-chat and an Uninvited Ring-necked dove: Morning Coffee Routine with Some Feathery Friends

I wake up every morning to see if there are any bird friends at the little water hole I made for them. I drink my coffee and see if they fancy some water as well. I hope for the cape Cape Robin-chat with who I have a special relationship. But he is nowhere to be found. But the Ring-necked dove comes for her visit uninvited but I snap a couple of photographs of her morning routine.

Puffed up feathers and a look that can kill, she flies away and I am left alone to drink my coffee. I wander off and do my daily things. I go for a visit elsewhere and here I find my friend! The Cape robin-chat gives me a show I will not forget. Their quick movements always leave me in awe, my finger can never press the shutter on my camera quick enough!

I snap only one photograph and walk away despondent and find some interesting other birds. Some Peacocks wander in front of me while busy in another shop. I run out and take some photographs of them.

They did not open their feathers this time round. And they were very shy. Running away from me as I try to snap a couple of photographs, but this leads me toward an interesting statue.

This statue is at one of the wine farms. But I am there not to buy wine but some coffee! For my early morning coffees.

Walking back to the car, I hear the splendid singing of the Cape robin-chat. I look in the trees to find my little friend, but I cannot see him. I then spot him! What a sight. I point and snap a couple of photographs of him singing to a female or other friend.

Such a wonderful friend. I love their beautiful song and their colorful feathers always brighten my day. Even though the day was a little gloomy, the rain is coming, this little friend makes me smile.

Satisfied, I sit in the car and ponder the moments I captured. A wonderful time to be alive, but also not. With so much uncertainty in the world, it is a wonder that we can function! Yet, it is also the greatest time to be alive. We can digitally take photographs of these friends and we can share them online with others who might not see them. With everything in life, there are trade-offs.

In the parking lot, I take a last photograph of the Strelitzia flower that is in full bloom. The whole garden is full of them. They look like angry birds who are looking for food. If you are under the influence, I am sure that this plant will become a bird to you. What a fright!

I hope you enjoyed the photographs of some beautiful birds. All of them were taken with my Nikon D300 and 300mm zoom lens. Happy birding, and stay safe!
