Woodpecker galore

in Feathered Friends4 years ago

Some days, like today, the woodpeckers are everywhere and in attempt to make as many photos as possible I end up just with few good ones. Today it was a chase among the trees when two or three of them were just flying from one tree to the other.

Syrian woodpecker. It is very similar to the Great Spotted Woodpecker.
The femaile is with black crown, while the male has red nape. Today I saw both male and female. As you can see the first photos are of female bird.

That tree was next to the road. The bird showed me its best profile.

Look down.

Look at the road.

And turn around.

And here comes the male woody. See how easy is to distinguish them. Just look if there is red patch on the neck or it is black.

While they were flying and me trying to capture them in flight I got few blurred images that I had to delete. It would be nice next time to manage that.

Finally this is the photo where for the first time I have the bird watching straigh ahead. It is kind of a suprise look, or that what it looks like to me.

All photos are cropped to give you better idea of how these woodpeckers looked like. I was afraid that any closer I would go, they would keep on escaping and I took the shots from longer distance than I wished.

All in all it was fun to chase them and run between the trees and the passers-by wonder what I am shooting. Such fun, 😀

By nature they are very naughty.

Yeah, they are little buggers, aren't they?

I have to check that😉

I like his markings. Kind of reminds me of the downy woodpeckers down here.

They are similar. Just have slightly different markings.

Maybe it was the nestlings practicing their tree landings! Dad was saying, just follow me, I'll show you how it's done! 😅 Great shots!

Sometimes I hardly see a single woodpecker. There is another one, the green woodpecker, I haven't seen for ages. But i will keep on looking.

These Woodpecker birds are a amazing bird in there moment so fast and active they should have named them Monkeybird the way they hang of trees 🤣

Hahaha, monkeybird sounds just right. I wouldn't believe it until I saw them hanging.
Thank you for stopping by.

This named would suite them haha 🤣

Great shots of the woodpeckers Neli. I hear them pecking sometimes but have a hard time getting a photo of one.

Thank you Jo 😀
I can see them all year round. There is another one, the green woodpecker, who I wish to see more often.
