Blast from the past - Lombard RAC Rally 1981

in Rally4 years ago

Hi, friends!

Today we go the time when current FIA boss and ex-Ferrari Formula 1 chief Jean Todt used to be a co-driver. And for who? He co-drive for ex-Citroen's WRC team boss Guy Frequelin. They had very nice rallying career together.

Famous Finn who was killed in an accident Henri Toivonen was just becoming big name and Colin McRae's father Jimmy was an Open Rally Champion for 1981.

When you look at those rear wheel drive cars like old Ford Escort or Opel Manta, it's obvious how harder was for drivers to drive on gravel stages then it is today.

Also Lancia cars were looking incredible and beautiful. I liked that old style that reminds me on old Lambo Miura.

Some brands like Talbot disappeared long time ago but that's just normal in the world of capitalism.

Old Renault 5 Turbo and Audi Quattro look pretty amazing.

But what is even more amazing for me? It's driving on muddy special stages which I enjoy very much.

Watch and learn from this piece of rallying history...
