▶️ Discussing Decentralized Social Media With Jacques Whales | EP#367

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

I recently had the chance to sit down again with Jacques Whales to discuss decentralization, blockchain social media, censorship, and much more. He is one of the co-founders at Discussions.App and gives us some insight into how they are approaching blockchain integrated social media and what Discussions is all about.

Discussions is a decentralized application or DApp running on the EOS blockchain that uses the token ATMOS. Users can tip and receive tips to reward quality content and engagement on the platform creating and empowering a monetizable ecosystem of content on the blockchain.

These are some of the questions we went over:
• Can you both tell us a little bit about yourselves?
• Let’s talk about decentralized social media and how it’s different centralized social media platforms
• Let’s discuss how blockchain integration ties into dapps and social platforms using crypto
• There’s a lot of censorship and privacy issues on legacy platforms today, while not all blockchain platforms solve this, they tend to lean towards free speech, what are your thoughts on the current social media space?
• Can you give us a brief introduction to Discussions.app?
• How does Discussions.app integrate with the blockchain?
• How decentralized is Discussions.app?
• How does Discussions.app deal with free speech and censorship?
• Can you give a quick breakdown of EOS and how you utilize it?
• Let’s highlight some of the problems with EOS so that people are fully aware of what it is and how Discussions solves this
• Do you want to tell us a little bit about the ATMOS token?
• What are the next big updates for Discussions.app to release soon or that are in the works?
• So where can everyone go to learn more about this?

Check out https://discussions.app/ for more information and to learn more about what they have to offer.

If you didn’t catch the original interview I did with Jacques and Paul Motschall here: https://lbry.tv/@ScottCBusiness:4/Interviewing-Jacques-Whales-and-Paul-Motschall-From-Discussions:f

What are your thoughts on censorship? Do you still use legacy platforms? Do you still have faith in them? What are your thoughts on blockchain integrated and crypto-monetized social platforms? Have you used Discussions.app? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and don’t’ forget to like, share, and subscribe!

great interview! I'm really excited for the future of decentralized solutions. I didn't realize how much power traditional platforms have, and how easily they can censor content arbitrarily.

with regards to streaming on blockchain, have you looked at what the guys at BitTube are working on?

Definitely checking out discussions.app

I checked out discussions.app its another social media blockchain environment. I must say you really are maximizing your exposure everywhere. Your purse is growing.

I don't agree with posting content to every platform available. If you have good worhtwhile content they will come to seek you out.

As for the platform that took out the tokens for anyone that did crosspost to other platforms I wholeheartedly agree with that decision. The ease at which things are being shifted from one platform to another just devalues the legitimacy of blockchain platforms as a whole.

It highlights the fickleness of everyone on it. That is my opinion after watching your video.

I don't agree with censorship, but I think a form of classification could be used like what is being done for movies, video games , tv and radio. A classification board. Something like this. Why? Because there are lots of ideas out on the internet and too many naïve people that unfortunately don't have the time or do not have the capacity to think critically.

"I don't agree with posting content to every platform available. If you have good worthwhile content they will come to seek you out."

It's not on the people to find you, you must seek them out. There's so much noise out there. It's unlikely nowadays.

Wouldn't that mean that we are all desperate for attention? I mean seeking them out so they can see a content? I mean when I see content here that I think are worthwhile and good I share them. The word of mouth concept sings to me far more than me going around trying to make sure its noticed.

One person here I have shared the hell out of is @nonameslefttouse his content to me is really good. I have shared his shit like there is no tomorrow. Not because I want people to get his attention but because naturally i think the content is good. I always feel awkward if I to go chasing for something because it probably means my content is not that good in the first place.

I post a lot of shit. Ramblings, rants and just downright stupid shit. I appreciate it when it gets upvoted but for the most part am just happy to be in a platform where there is no insidious group controlling what I consume.

So no I would not post everywhere and do not agree wholeheartedly others doing so. But. I will never stop you doing so. It just means I will avoid your content in the future since it doesn't sing to me. And the noise is just that noise, when your music is way above the noise I am confident it will receive the reward, price and waht ever else comes to the content creator.

A platform that is immutable as long as the network are maintained by our node keepers. Again its my opinion.

More importantly what is hard to find is worth the effort for them to seek it. If they miss it then they do not deserve to be under the light

It's simply a way to protect your material from censorship. Posting the same content across multiple channels doesn't change its value or quality. Assuming so is a lazy excuse to do nothing.

If you post your content on HIVE there is no more censorship. Or have I been misled on this belief?
