FRIDGE LIFE is HEALTHY LIFE

Its one of those chores that you ( read I ) is always postponing. Its a thing I need to take time for and that’s always my excuse. Not this week! While preparing for my care and the things required for me getting help I decided to do this and start fresh. With a big family the fact that things have their own place within the fridge is something not all members of my household got the memo for. Mum will clean and re-arrange ! Yep I will but please when it’s clean try to let it be that way for a while.

I am chill and will do this ! It’s also a lifestyle to keep the house and the appliances clean. It’s more healthy and things have a longer life within your house.

I start with getting all this in the fridge out and clean all the shelves by removing them. I take soft detergent and rearrange all things. Some that are half empty or close to the expiration date I throw away.

The shelves are clean when I put all in again and when it’s finished I am satisfied by the end result. But for how long hahaha.

Then after it’s cleaned properly and set it to the right temperature. I give you a number of tips for cleaning and which products you keep in the fridge. For health reasons, its recommended to have the fridge on a temperature of 4 ° C for the cooling part. This temperature inhibits the growth of bacteria and fungi. Many things can influence the energy consumption of a refrigerator: at what temperature the refrigerator is set, what temperature are the things that you put in the refrigerator, how hot it is in the kitchen and of course how often and for how long you open the refrigerator. With a few small tips you can (still) be (more) energy-efficient with your refrigerator:

  • Do not put products or dishes in the refrigerator that are warmer than (a high) room temperature. For example, let a soup cool down before you put it in the fridge.
  • Take home refrigerated or frozen products from the supermarket in a cool bag, especially on a hot day. At home, put them right away in the fridge or freezer.
  • Set the refrigerator to the correct temperature.
  • Do not place the refrigerator in direct sunlight or in the immediate vicinity of a heat source, such as the oven or heater. If there is no other place, stick insulating foil to the side of the refrigerator.
  • Let frozen products defrost in the refrigerator.
  • Open (and keep) the door open as little as possible. Perhaps a piece of cake, but very important for limiting energy consumption.

This is something that needs to be done and when it’s finished you need to pin it to the calendar, for next time. I know @dswigle has a tag or use to end her blogs with it so hope she likes it hahaha

What do you keep in the fridge and where? In general, what is chilled in the supermarket, you also keep at home in the refrigerator and vice versa. But there are exceptions.
Eggs are in the supermarket outside the fridge, but are best kept in the fridge at home. Just like soft fruits such as strawberries, currants, raspberries and blackberries. But it is better not to keep a pineapple in the refrigerator.

As I said before : Clean the refrigerator often enough. Preferably once every 3 months. This way you ensure that it continues to work efficiently and prevent the growth of bacteria.

  • If it’s possible switch off the refrigerator. Store the products outside in the winter, in cool bags in the summer. Remove and clean all shelves, drawers, bins and racks with washing-up liquid. Clean the inside with dish soap or mild all-purpose cleaner. Don't forget the door and the door seals. Clean the drain channel with a cotton swab. Polish with clean water and dry everything with a clean tea towel.
Clean the rear grille once a year with a vacuum cleaner. Also the outside and the handle because that one it behanded 40 times a day by your family only.

Oh!! What a beautiful refrigerator!!! Because the European ones are smaller, slimmer, and fewer shelves, they are a bigger challenge! But, this looks amazing, and yes, cleaning it like that is a necessary evil!

Open yours up, people! Let's see what it looks like today!

I'm taking you home with me! Mwah! Have a great day!

Ohhhh that is just what the doctor needed, while laying here in bed the comment that you appreciate the blog, i know you did the fridge thing months ago, and i remembered. Maybe i was just afraid that my sister moving in would think i am a slons ( dutch for slob hahahha )

Having a frost free fridge for many years it decided to die just before lockdown last year, a hasty decision made to buy two normal smaller fridges was made.

Defrosting every 3 months is the normal, or it ices up and drawers won't close properly if only I could sit in it rather than clean it in summer months.

Packing these fridges, not having the space I had previously this is a nightmare and yes men stand and gaze into a fridge like deer caught in headlights!

Well done one your clean up, hope the family listen to you ha ha ha....

A few days in and i must say its still not messy hahahahahah, hope its stays this way

I truly agree with you a good clean fridge is healthy and hygienic

And so needed but i am always late hahahahahha, now its done and clean and still neat after a few days

I did a #showmeyourfridge initiative the other year 😊

Love your cardigan btw!

Ok dear i feel another community coming up hahhahahahahahah

Before the pandemic, I was often shopping in the Netherlands. From us, Germany, it is about 10 minutes by car.
But what I never understand, why is everything packed in plastic? Fruit, salad, vegetables, everything?

And right now I'm even drinking a Dutch !BEER from hertog Jan.

Thats something we need to change here indeed, dutch have so much plastic but the rules are not tight enough thats i think the reason

Oh my, what a clean frig. It's something I really don't like doing, but I love it when I am done with that chore.
It really is an important task. Old food can contaminate, new food, so it's smart to stay on top of it.
I am big on vacuum sealing. Locks in the freshness as well as the orders.
Check that off your "to do" list.😊

The first thing that i did was the ✅ on the list hahahahah and i have to say the family still has it as neat as it was after cleaning
I wonder for how long

Enjoy it while you can, cuz you and I both know that won't last... hehe

Hehehe, the refrigerator is always a chore!
You got it organized!
Ahh. Clean and healthy.

These things are needed but not my favorite, but when its done it feels good, and its still neat after days so , hopefully it stays that way

Our work is seldom done. When you think you have placed a dent on one thing, another takes the forefront!'LOL!

Wow @brittandjosie An amazing transformation How much do you charge? My fridge is in desperate need of tender loving care and reorganization.

Nice job on separating and combining like items. I'm frequently rushing to put cooked foods in the fridge before they have cooled down properly. Thanks for the reminder. I'll take more care.

Appreciate all the tips.

No the more you clean to more it stays neat but i always am wayyyyy to late to do so, but when its done it is satisfying

Aren't cleaning projects like that the absolute best? It's easy to put them off, but once you get started you're on a roll. And the final result is so amazing. Your refrigerator looks so great!

That starting point is the problem now that its finished it feels good

Time consuming and annoying job but ones it's done you wish it could stay that way but you know kids ... mom will do it...ohhh ...yeah...mom will do it...words you don't want to hear right.
