Trash cleanup on the property – Day 2

in Homesteadinglast year

In my previous clean up day I found lots of trash to dispose of. Though I did not do such a good job throwing it in the trash bin, so starting with day two I got into the bin and worked the trash around to make space for more heavy objects near the door. That way I can easily toss them without having to hurl them over the 7 foot bin wall. Since I found a lot of heavy trash out in the woods I will need a good strategy for removing it without busting my ass too much. So I plan on getting my truck as close as possible and from there just get it into the door to remove it from the property.

Once some space was made I found a few more pieces of trash in the area and then got to planning on what to clean up next.

My Dodge Ram has been a big help in hauling trash, already handled a few loads of trash.. and many more to come. Hopefully I can give it some better jobs than just hauling trash but its a good start.

There is a spot on my property where it looks like an old building stood but was torn down and some of the wood was left at the center of the building foundation. Looks like many decades have passed and as dirt was blown up on the exposed foundation new plants grew.

Lots of concrete blocks laying around. I collected them and planning on using them to build an exterior of a fire pit. Still need some fire bricks for the inside though.

Found some burnt "stuff" not sure what it is.. I left it alone for now.

Shout out to my snake guards, makes me feel much better getting into those tall grasses.

As I haul out trash I realize how much there is, and no way it will all fit in my truck in one go.

Old pallets were in there but chewed through by termites, and where the insects did not get to it the moisture did.

Some wild lambs ear was growing here, I like that plant. Will keep it but maybe move it somewhere else.

The previous owner of this truck but guards on the sides of the bed, made it nice to haul stuff up on the side without worrying about scratching the paint.

As more and more trash was removed I started to see the concrete foundation of the old building. No idea what it was used for, maybe it was the first house on this property many decades ago.

Once I filled up the bed I drove it over to my dumpster and unloaded it all.

These bricks are keepers, well some of them.. I found many broken ones and tossed them. But I found at least 2 dozen bricks and blocks on the property so far.

Many different sizes and styles too. Looking forward to having some warm days so I can build the fire pit with them. For the mortar to set I need some warmer days, just too cold right now in Virginia.

One of the first things I plan on doing with this fire pit is to process some cactus fruit I picked. They are covered in tiny irritating spines and must be burned off.. Figured putting them over the fire with tongs should do the trick. So keeping these bricks is all in the plan to build it.

Most of the bricks were laying on exposed earth and are a little wet. So I will dry them out stacked and hopefully by the time the weather warms up they will be ready.

The trousers are totally overkilling for snakes! LOL 🤣

Hehe yeah it was a PJs day

Wow. Glad you have a big truck.... And fancy snake guards, too!

The big truck compensates for the tiny penis.

At least according to @bethvalverde's daughter anyway.

looks down pants

...lol

@melinda010100 hehe yeah it is, bought it used and came with all those fancy things. Though I would have lifted it if was not, so nice they did the work for me.

And yeah those snake guards are great, they remind me of soccer shin guards.

First off.. those pants. Those will scare all snakes away. Except those that walk upright.

Two. Those blocks can make great raised garden beds.

Hah, nothing like doing outdoor work in nautica PJs...

True, we will see what I have left after building the exterior of the firepit with the concrete blocks.

Hey man looks like you are on the area again. These guards are so cool man everybody needs bcs that snakes can surprise you because they are so fast.

So true, its not worth the risk for sure.

I have yet to have one strike my guards but you never know when they could.

Some of those broken bricks could be used to good use as infill for raised garden beds or if you're going to reshape any parts of the land.

The old wood could potentially make for some nice bonfires on chilly nights :) Depending on the wood though you may not want to roast marshmallows over it.

There ya go, I could recycle many of these things.

Though most of the wood is termite infested or rotten by ground contact. So I will toss most of it. Honestly there are a bunch of Loblolly pine's around the fire pit around I would rather cut down and use for fire wood outside... never inside of course due to the resin.

Makes sense! :)

Weldone, you did a great job our there

thanks very much

You get a lot of satisfaction out of a good property clear up. And the more you do, the less there is left to do !

Sure do, it will feel good when its all cleaned up.
