What Is Hive?

Approaching Nationhood

A question many continue to ask, so here are my views on what Hive is.

Hive is the first on-line Nation. many see Hive as only a community, I believe we are well beyond the community stage. As many of the New World Nations were born out of strife from their original founding Kings and Queens, Hive has moved well beyond the founding leaders/Oligarchs of Steem block chain.

One day the would be King of Steem decided to sell his community to the highest bidder, to one man who wanted to be King of the Crypto World, who wanted to control the masses.

A few people got together and decided this was not the direction they had wanted the community to take. So they worked behind the scenes, like any good revolutionary would, and started to look at ways to either take back or to break away from the new tyrant controlled community.

After awhile it was the break-away option that seemed best in their opinion. So they worked diligently to begin building what they thought would be a new community on-line. Once the structure was built they invited people to join them, to start fresh in a real decentralized community.

Many of us took them up on their offer, and migrated to Hive. It took awhile but work began on re-building the foundation of our home. Like all revolutions it was bumpy and it continues to be so as we continue to solidify the foundation of our home.

Moving Beyond Community to Nation

We have people that have embraced the community, and are working to protect that community. We have a group of individual that are working to maintain the integrity of Hive by working as enforcers on the few things we as a group consider wrong such as theft, and plagiarism. We can recognize the fact that we are a community in that many do not like the small enforcement group that has formed.

We have very few requirements for people that first join, the biggest is the inability for them to be seen as full fledged members in the lack of being able to vote for witnesses until a time line has passed. (30 days)

We have our Justice system, the people that decide what is good and what is not for our community in the form of the witnesses. These are people that are elected by the people. They decide what code will rule the community.

So we have an enforcement branch, (all volunteers), and a Judicial branch. We do not have a Representative type branch per-say, but we have the Developers pretty much all volunteers again.

We have a financial advisor branch of a sort, we have the folks at Hive-Engine and at Leo-Finance, working as the monetary branch of the community. These are groups and people that have earned the trust and respect of many of us and have been adopted as default financial system for our community. They are making it possible for our community coin to become more useful and eventually a full-fledged currency.

Every Nation has a style of entertainment, and Hive is certainly not with out it's entertainment. Cards and Card games seem to predominate right now, but video output is increasing, we have the card games and several video outlets to choose from. We have books, and travel magazines to look through, and communities with-in communities to explore.

Nations are built from communities, and there is no lack of communities on Hive. Nations are also built on diversity of the people, and with-in Hive we see many people from many countries from many walks of life. Rich, poor, middle class, elite, socialist, democrats, communist, and all the other political parties represented. We are a true melting pot of people.

We all come from different cultures and different societies, and we are all working on building our own moral and ethical background for our Hive community, whether we realize it or not. It is though our postings, and our reading of postings, and our rewarding of postings that we slowly build what is important for the community.

Community to Nationhood

We have only recently been born, we are out of the womb and right now tossing and turning in our crib, sometimes laughing at the sight of our mobile and sometime crying out in the dark from hunger or other reasons. Soon we will be out of the crib learning to crawl and walk and talk. Our community has been born, and now we are growing into a nation.

Revolutions are not fought over night, they can take time, we have the time, we have the means, and we have the strength to stand up to those who would rather see us crumble back into dust. In time we will view Steem the same way we view the initial founding of our walking life nations, we will hardly give it a thought. Do any in the New World Nations really think that much of the Kings and Queens and Conquerors of the Old World that founded their Nations?
