Nothing to be proud of

I couldn't help but notice some glaring similarities as I sat and watched the Detroit Lions game on Sunday afternoon. It felt a whole lot like the Michigan State game I had watched less than 24 hours before. In fact, I think as my wife sat next to me on the couch, she asked the same question she had asked the day before about the Spartans... "how did they get this bad".

Yes, the Lions won the game, but it took them overtime to do it. In a game that should have been a total blow out against one of the worst teams in the NFC the Lions were barely able to eek out a win. I'll always be a Lions fan, but I have never really been a fan of Jared Goff. I would have rather they kept Stafford or at the very least picked up a quarter back that is able to be the least bit mobile.

It was a horizontal trade for the Lions and that is starting to become evident now. I know, it's hard to look past all the big numbers that Goff can put up, but the problem is consistency. Stafford put up big numbers too. The problem wasn't the QB, it was the offensive and defensive lines. Again, we are seeing those same problems come to light now that we are staring over with new coordinators.

I'd argue that the Lions defense has been struggling ever since all the injuries they had last season. I would have hoped in the off season they might have turned things around, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

With a huge game coming up on a short week for the Lions, I'm honestly feeling a bit nervous about their chances to make it to the playoffs. The first meeting with Green Bay this year didn't go so well. Hopefully we get a Thanksgiving miracle and it goes a little better.

Houston took down Buffalo 23 to 19 on Thursday night, while Baltimore reminded the Jets why they are at the bottom of the AFC beating them 23 to 10.

Kansas City had a bit of overtime luck beating the Colts 23 to 20 and knocking them out of one of the top spots in the AFC. Seattle beat Tennessee 30 to 24, and Green Bay took down Minnesota 23 to 6. The Lions edged out the Giants in overtime 34 to 27, and The Patriots beat the Bengals 26 to 20.

Chicago took down Pittsburgh 31 to 28, and if you want to read a really good post about the game, check out @hanshotfirst's blog.

Jacksonville also had an overtime win against Arizona 27 to 24, Cleveland took down the Raiders 24 to 10, and Atlanta also beat the Saints 24 to 10. I always find it interesting when two games have the same score. Especially when it is a less traditional one like that. I mean 14 to 7 isn't that weird, but 24 to 10 is a little more so.

Dallas had a spectacular upset win over Philly 24 to 21, The Rams beat Tampa Bay 34 to 7, and San Francisco took down Carolina 20 to 9. That's actually a tough loss for Tampa Bay. They have been on a bit of a slide after being one of the darlings at the beginning of the season who many analysts thought might win it all this year.

That leaves New England in the top spot in the AFC with Denver, then Indy close behind. Meanwhile, Tennessee sits at the bottom of the barrel with just one win.

Over in the NFC, The Rams are sitting alone at the top with Philly and believe it or not Chicago close behind. New Orleans and the Giants bring in the rear with only two wins a piece.
