Today I want to show you some photos of my favourite time of the day: the time before sunrise.

As you might know, I love places with no other people around me. That is one reason for me to prefer sunrises to sunsets: most people love to watch sunsets while less people like to get up early in the morning to enjoy a sunrise.

Photographers are different, I know, so I also try to avoid the honeypot locations, the photographer's hotspots. Even when I have been to the Dolomites, I tried to go off the official paths, but because so many other photographers are there at any time of the year, it isn't easy to find unique photo spots.

But back to this post's theme: the time before sunrise...

In August 2022, I have got up quite early because I had to drive about 1.5 hours to the starting point of my hike to the Malnock, a mountain in the Nock Mountain Range. My starting point of this circular hike was the free parking lot at the Glockenhütte (Website of the Glockenhütte) that was completely empty at 4:30 in the morning and then I hiked the sometimes quite steep path to the first peak that is called Klomnock and from there to the Malnock mountain.

Except the photos taken later in daylight, the photos in this post were taken in the area of the Malnock where I had some granola bars to eat and a hot tey to drink - my first breakfast that morning.

There's a cross on every single mountain peak, I believe.

My other and much more important reason for loving the time before sunrise is the silence: far away from cities and people and roads there's nothing that disturbs the silence while Nature is slowly awakening. Most animals are still sleeping or about to wake up, you can hear the first birds greeting the new morning and enjoy the first morning light and colours on the horizon.

My second breakfast was at the Rote Burg / Red Castle, a rocky hill that consists of red rocks and looks somehow like the ruins of an old castle. There I was watched by a curious marmot. More about that a little further down after the next photos.

Layer after layer after layer ... I love mountain layers and here you have some from that morning.

It got brighter and the cows woke up waiting for the sun to warm them up after spending a night outside.

The sun rose higher and told me that soon the time before sunrise would be over.

And there she was, rising right below the mountain peak - not a planned but a very welcome shot.

After the sun was up, I continued the circular hike. In the following images you can see the rocks of the Rote Burg / Red Castle that I mentioned in the beginning. Only at home on the big monitor I saw that the crow was watching the little bird on the rock to the left.

The marmot was watching for quite a while while I was having my second breakfast, but when I tried to get a little closer it said good bye and didn't see it again 😉

At the end of my today's post I want to show you my probably favourite photo of that morning: the wooded hill across the valley was still dark as well as the sunrays had no tfound the mountain behind it, but the mountain pasture on top of the hill was already completely illuminated by the morning sun.

First of all, thank you very much for providing such excellent pictures of the mountain view before the sunrise. I love every shot and every details you presented to us; the layers of the colors, the layers of the mountains, the sunrays on the top of the hill in the last picture, those cute wild animals (the marmot, the crow that was watching the little bird on the rock to the left.) and the cows, etc. Yeah! I think you can also hear sweet songs from various birds in that early morning....

I love places with no other people around me, too. The silence is also my favorite.

You always did great job, my friend. You are great photographer and particular observer as well.

ich habe Sonnenaufgänge zwar lieber, aber wenn ich die Gelegenheit habe, einen schönen Sonnenuntergang zu sehen, dann genieße ich auch diesen.
Smartphones machen heutzutage zum Teil schon extrem gute Fotos, wie man in deinem Post gut sehen kann - schöne Bilder 😀

Looking out over layers the first ridge slight detail, slowly fading across in gentle purple going further down layers of mountain ridges all the way back, nothing beats early morning sunrise.

Stone the crow, you captured some birds always thought the must be up there, nice to see this handsome bit chaps, hope he was not planning to invade the little bird further along.

Marmot enjoying early morning sun, warming up with cows in the distance animals all arriving to greet the new day, lovely photography captured on this morning out Johann.

I'm so happy that most people prefer their cozy bed to an early sunrise 😂 !LOLZ
Sunrises are so different compared to sunsets. Maybe the colours in the sky are about the same, but if I had to choose I would always decide for the awakening nature to the slowly falling asleep world 😉

I didn't notice a fight later, so I don't think that the crow attacked the little bird.

At home we don't get great sunrise view, normally sleep through them now, used to be up early to watch the sun come up...., no more!

Holidays a very different picture up for sunrise and enjoy sunset, you are right sunrise is always quiet with majority still packed up tight in bed.

Too early for crow to worry little bird looked like everything was waiting for the sun to come up. Nice to see some birds and animals showing their faces to you when hiking out.

From the kitchen window I often can see sunrise colours in the east when I get up later on weekends.

It's not often that I am fast (or patient) enough to take photos of wild animals or birds, but sometimes they seem to be more curious than me 😂 !LOLZ

Being lower down on a hill we see the sunrise through trees, my brothers house faces directly over the ocean with views of the sunrise, very much warmer early morning.

Patience once we slow down don't rush off to offices, we tend to naturally stay awhile to enjoy the little critters around.

I love those moments before dawn.. When the sky starts to change color...
Those hours are the most peaceful...
I know this is your favorite time of day... And this time you captured the real beauty....no clouds...just dawn and mountains... ☀️🤗
And I liked the lone bird on the rock, as well as the marmot basking in the first rays of the sun...

And certainly the most special moment is when the sun is just coloring the peaks, a thin streak of light....🤗🌸
