Fertilizer for your plants with organic waste (1/2). Do not throw this away!

in Natural Medicine3 years ago

In this first of two posts I am going to recommend you all two types of fertilizers for your plants that will help immensely to get more, bigger, better flowers, and will improve the overall health of your plants. One of the things that I like about these recipes is that everybody can do it at home, they are extremely easy to make, and at a very low cost since the ingredients we are going to use to make it are basically the waste of organic components that are very common in a lot of households worldwide.

This fertilizer can be used in many if not all types of plants, because of the nutrients that can contribute to the growth and right development of the rooting system of the plant, and also to give them more vigor. Amongst the minerals we could give to our plants with this liquid magic are potassium, magnesium, iron, calcium, and copper.

If someone in your house drinks coffee, and you buy the ground coffee, you sure are used to throw away the waste after the coffee is done, but actually if you love taking care of your plants, and want them to have a better appearance, save the coffee waste, once used, and put around of 4 to 5 spoons of that coffee remains on a 1 Liter jar full of clean water, then let it rest for 24 hours.

Once this is ready, you strain again the coffee, and take the liter of the mix aside.

For the second ingredient of this magic nutrient food for plants, is one very common vegetable that is largely used in a bunch of places in the world, the onion. Do not throw away the external leaves of the onion, it doesn't matter the type of onion, take the leaves appart softly and add them to an empty jar or recipient, and then add water to make it full.

After 24 hours, you will notice how the water has gotten the color of the onion leaves, so you proceed to strain the water and take the leaves aside.

For each liter of this onion leaves water I add an extra liter and a half of water.

For each Liter of fertilizer made of coffee waste, I add a liter and a half of water, this way, we are ensuring that it is correctly diluted and the pH of the mix is not too low or too high to affect the pH of the soil and get our plants sick. If you have a pH meter in your house, I would strongly recommend you to check on the pH of the fertilizer once it is ready, to check that the pH is not that different from the pH of clean water, so this way you know is safe to use the fertilizer in your plants directly.

To finish, I mix both fertilizer in a recycled 5 liter jug, in which I add approximately 1 liter of the coffee mix, 1 liter of the onion leaves mix, and 3 liters of water to dissolve. And voilá, you have a powerful broth that will improve the health of any type of plants you are cultivating.

I would apply this fertilizer once a week for 3 weeks the first month, and then maybe one time per month for another two months, and you will see a lot of results when your plants look strong and beautiful, and they create colorful, or big strong flowers.

If you make more than 2-3 liters of this liquid, you can actually freeze half of it so that way it does not get bad and you can keep it to another season.

Soon I will explain to you what is the second type of fertilizer I do at home with another ingredient taken from my organic waste box. Don't throw away the coffee waste and the leaves of the onions by the way, take them to make compost!

Glad as always to share here with you all, I hope that you have a fantastic weekend, regards.

Ooh cool I always put the coffee grounds in the compost but I never made a weaker brew out of it for fertilizer, or with onions. I was just reading about dyeing fabric with onionskins so I've been saving those too. Thanks for the tip!

Thank you for your kind comment. It is nice to know you make compost and save the onion skins, now you have everything you need to make this :) regards!

This is fabulous! I always wondered if it was possible to use kitchen scraps to make fertilizer. I have a load of coffee grounds that I am saving and I think I will give it a try.

Good detail and photos, I can't wait for the second part. 💚🤗
