Companions newly made

I have ta'en this road,
not for ease of smoothest step
but these sights to see:
both the grim and bright pristine.
Emblazoned 'hind shut eyelids
where the scorch of fiery brand
reaches not to cauterize
hazed portals — by thy hand laid ope anew.
Rising, though unbidden to:
joy once hidden by sojourn
through roiling clouds of chaos
where impossible is born of still-glown hope.
May not these dreams lie still-born,
but rise from waiting grave
to join the weary traveler:
companions newly made.
