Mando Practice, Bake Bread, Flour Bins, Books - Wednesday

Yesterday morning was a tough one trying to get J out of bed. He seems to have the inability to fall asleep at night and ends up reading until god knows when. Once out of the tub it took some serious badgering before he got his butt in gear. I woke up feeling much better than the prior day and after the soak and another hit of ibuprofen I was good for the day.

Bradley Laird's website has a number of free lessons and I have the rest of them downloaded. I am going through the basics over and over trying to drill it into my skull and to get my hands to do what my mind is asking.

After picking J up from school I got a batch of bread going in the bread maker. I never trust the machine to get the dough right on its own, I always help it to mix and then knead. If I don't there is dry bits left and it tends not to knead quite as well as it should. The machine and I have an understanding and I know how to work with it. I set a timer on my phone for an hour and come back after the first rise and punch to remove the paddle from the pan so there is not a huge cavity left in the bread.

While the bread did its thing I spent a while in the bathroom washing the icing buckets really well. It is the only large basin we have with hot water that I needed for the cleansing. The buckets went fast and easy, it was the lids that were the major pain in the ass. They have all these stupid divots and recesses around the underside that collects and traps dirt and debris. It took a good while to get them all mostly cleaned out.

With them clean and dry I was able to transfer the bag of quinoa and the 50 pound bag of flour from the bag into the buckets. I line the buckets with plastic bags that I use for produce to keep the flour better for longer. I have a bunch more items that need to be binned which will help to organize the pantry.

The loaf of bread came out right about dinner time and we all ended up having a slice while it was still warm.

My books arrived and I am pretty amazed at the left one, it is huge. It's almost 300 pages long and is a complete course in mandolin from beginner to expert. The Hal Leonard book is the follow on to the book 1 that I have.

This is my mandolin book collection now. I have gotten a number of books to learn with because I find some methods easier and I need the variety. I'll open two or three of them at the same time and work through the similar exercises of each. It gives me a good variety and I think balance of learning. With the videos I'm watching and all the practice I am trying to do I really want to make this stick.

The boys were an uber challenge for the evening, namely J but R had his moments as well. When we went to get in the tub it was sitting at 105F which felt nice for a little bit but got a bit too much shortly. Luckily though the jets all on helped to cool it down faster. It's amazing what one or two degrees will do.

Today it has been raining overnight and will be into the morning, J has school then this evening both boys have their first wrestling practice. I need to keep organizing in the kitchen and pantry and need to come up with a few more icing buckets to transfer stuff into for storage, constant practice on the mandolin, and I would like to get another solid writing session in like yesterday.

I miss my bread maker machine, which I got rid off when we moved, but I used to make breads all the time and I loved it.

There are a ton of them available for varying price points if you were looking to get another one.. We have had this one for years and it has managed to survive this long. I'm likely to outgrow it soon as the boys are getting to the size where they are shoveling food in.

Thanks for sharing.
