Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 1st September 2021

It looks like the northern hemisphere is busy with harvests. Meanwhile the south is preparing for a new growing season with the arrival of spring.

It seems that the timing of this newsletter means that we are missing challenges at the moment, as they are all in their wrap up stage, but keep your eyes on @ecotrain and @abundance.tribe for future ones.

This week is short and sweet, but I hope you enjoy the highlights.

A quick edit To let you know that we do have the Garden Journal challenge from @riverflows, which will be posting in the HiveGarden community.

Some highlights of the week

If you've every wondered about elephant garlic? Then this video from @sustainablyyours should help to enlighten you. I've grown standard garlic for a few years and got some little surprises from this interesting variety.

A reminder comes from @thebigsweed about the bounties to be found in nature. It's easy to forget that our crops all came from wild plants at some point and they still exist out there in the wild. He also adds a little reminder to take things at a pace you can manage as time changes things.

@mudcat36 takes us on a tour of her garden as the UK heads into autumn. Despite a week off dry weather while they were away, there are still harvests to be had and a cute little visitor allowed them to take sombre portraits.

Whenever @buckaroobaby shares a recipe it makes me want to start cooking. I'm always astonished at how a treat can be so burritos nutritious if made the right way and her chocolate mousse is no different.

Today is a beautiful 26 degrees Celsius and I am enjoying just sitting here in the warmth of the sun. Yesterday the first day of spring there was a lovely warm breeze in the air. Loved it!

These gardens look absolutely delicious. Wonder what I will plant this year.
