Lotus Garden Newsletter for Homesteaders. 28th July 2021

Authored by @minismallholding

When I first started writing this newsletter my main focus was to try and highlight informative homesteading articles for those wanting to learn more about this topic. I love looking through the #homesteading and #gardening tags and sometimes what I learn that day is not in the form of a lengthy post, but in the form of a short, but helpful tip. This week that helpful tip can from @enforcer48 in the form of a brief explanation and a link to a guide on ducks and how to make them pay. A quirky title, but a serious topic for those wanting to make an income stream on the homestead.

Things happening in the community.

This week's @ecotrain question of the week asks is to delve into what we need to let go of, offering an opportunity for a little introspection and self therapy.

Some highlights of the week

We've all got to start somewhere and @perma.nature shares the start of her journey towards a permaculure way of growing food. Already, insights have been gained from these first steps.

When you're growing in extreme climates, sometimes you need to intervene with plants to help them through a particularly harsh weather period. In this case, @kennyroy is pruning back the chilli plants to help them through a particularly hot period.

@trangbaby updates us on what's growing in her garden and offers some tips on protecting ripening fruit from the non-humans who want to eat them.

Because harvests don't happen all the year round, as a homesteader it's useful to know how to preserve the bounties when they happen. @chacald.dcymt takes us through the process of preserving tomatoes in the form of tomato puree, which is actually a tradition among a few cultures where tomatoes are commonly grown.

Thank you for stopping by. This week's newsletter was brought to you by @minismallholding and a 10% beneficiary is awarded to @trangbaby
