Green Medicine or Brown Poison : Tobacco Challenge

in Natural Medicine4 years ago

I am writing this, after seeing many Green posts on Tobbaco by @naturalmedicine community. I am referring it to be Green, as I saw some of the best green fields of Tobacco on the community reblogged posts. Seriously,I never saw in real such Green Tobacco fields, even when Indian population is largely depend upon its consumption. I mean I only saw the darker side up it, which is usually Brown or Black in colour.

Dry Tobacco is quite popular especially in Uttar Pradesh and other Eastern part of India.(other parts too have its liking) People are so habitual of the dry Tobacco in these region that, they find it hard to go to loo early without putting in mouth and also hard to get sleep before going to bed. Khaini /Surthi are the common name and can be easily available in 10 Grms or lessor quantity at any corner of the road.
They are kind of energy booster, tobacco refresh them, it help in digestion, it allow them sleep and what else. It's such an addiction that people can't get over it even a single day. There is also way of consuming it.

A Pinch of fine chopped raw dry Tobacco, in palm, a little bit of limestone (chuna) and they start rubbing and mixing in their palms using the thumb. Untill it turned in fine powder.

Then they place it in the mouth right at the back of teeth or inside the lower lips. And keep sipping the juice that is formed after mixing with the saliva. Be a labour, a mason, a common man, a teacher, a lawyer, and many other are simply fond of it. I mean not everyone is so much addicted. But the majority of population simply relies upon it. It is kind of in gene, and it's influences the kids of younger age to get into its consumption practice. You can easily find anyone rubbing Tobacco on the streets and if not then look at anyone left palm or right thumb. The traces of rubbing tobacco will be there. If not then it means, not yet addicted into the black world.

It is always easy and simple to carry these tobacco with many carrying the small boxes in their pocket. And if not then carrying a zippocket bag.

A very handy way to live with Poison. For sure, this is not a recommended medicine, this is kind of slow poison that is affecting many lives. May be that is reason one may easily find Black teeth among people or many suffering from mouth cancer. Over consumption of it simply wont do good for anyone. I know many aged people who have broken teeth, or have mouth cancer or have bad teeth all because of continously eating the dry Tobacco for many years.

India is one of the major Tobacco producer with staggering INR 60.84 Billion export figure during 2018. Non-cigarette tobacco alone had a 69% market share, khaini constituted 11%, and Beedi and Cigarette had a market share of 8%. (Beedi is form of local cigaerette , made up by filling dry Tobacco into folded dry leafes)

Tobacco contains nicotine, a psychoactive (mind altering) drug that speeds up activity in our central nervous system and has relaxing effects on our body. May be people are more fond of it because of it, but overdose of it may be a bad health effect in longer run.

This is my little contribution to @naturalmedicine Tobacco Challenge

PS: I am NOT one in the majority. All inputs here were taken after watching near one addiction and my own intake through their experiences.

Stay Home...Stay Safe !!

Namaste @steemflow

Ugh. Rotten teeth are definitely a turn off! It's fascinating how people use tobacco in other countries, and chewing it definitely wasn't something we did or even do in the West. Thanks so much for writing this - it's helping me get a much broader understanding of global tobacco use!

I didn't find a better teeth than this to show the bad effect of tobacco...😉 I just share some of the look of dry Tobacco which is quite a part of life.
