Modern Times also known as Why some raptors need to file their nails

The above was partially inspired by @dougkarr 's Blogging By Dictation Has it's like Issues as Will the Future of Human/AI Interaction
or, to be more precise, it made me decide to add the dictating element, where - only yesterday - I realized that Hypersensitivosaurus could be doing some journaling.

I have been thinking of using dicating / voice to text software for some years now but never found anything affordable that worked for me.

In all honesty, it's about time that this story becomes more META.
Let's make it an onion, with layers revealing other layers revealing even more layers and - as a bonus - with health benefits ( not unlike onions ).

I also wrote the following today ( or, in this case, I typed... ):

Filing your nails, a necessary task for peaceful raptors, carnivores or not, was a real challenge for hypersensitivosaurus.

The feeling – and sound - that this action produced, the repetitive scraping and scratching of nails on a rock, gave him goose bumps ( in case you didn't know, his predecessors were huge chickens, hence the eggs and goosebumps ) and an overall feeling of dis ease. Even the thought alone made him cringe.

Nevertheless, nail filing needed to be done, in order to live the kind of life that he had chosen.

He had managed to find a remedy though, something that helped a lot - putting some wax in his ear holes.

Nevertheless, even with plugged ear holes, it was far from easy. Being hypersensitive and knowing how it sounded with unplugged ear holes and just the overall sensation...

😖

It wasn't like he had much of a choice though and, more importantly, the more of a habit he made this, the more he would get used to it and the less time he would need for future filing sessions.

Plus, if he ever wanted to play ( long distance ) chess, he would need shorter nails.

TO... BE... CON...TIN...YOUED ( Thank you, Tortoise! )

Voice to text software... That sounds interesting. I have thought of it sometimes myself. Imagine how much easier it would be

Yeah, also - if I could use it while being out - that would be awesome. I usually have my best ideas on walks and I actually prefer being outdoor over indoor even though I spend most of my time in between four walls.

And I like to use it kind of as audio recording but then with the added bonus that it's transferred in text already.

I feel you on the outdoorsy indoorsy part. Having a walk can do miracles for your spirit

Very true. I actually need one or two walks a day ( preferably in nature ) to stay sane. I'm a special case ;<)

Nature is the best

Do you play chess? Long nails are no problem for a long distance game.
And they are definitely less frightening than the sound of scratching. Aggh:)

Yeah, I recently got into chess again via chess.com - after having played only couple of games a year up till now. I even play with a friend on here @inuke

It's great brain training and a welcome distraction these days.

Also, it's hard to use a touch screen with sharp powerful raptor nails without damaging it.

And they are definitely less frightening than the sound of scratching

There's few things that beat this sound.

Maybe we'll play chess one day. I am not very good at it though. I am too impatient to be good at chess.

You are most welcome. :-)

Hahaha!

Perhaps we can make it a threesome ( chess wise that is )?

Did I just invent a new game here? 3 player chess.

Triple threat??
That is just not fair man. What's stopping me and ectone from ganging up on you. 😈
Hahaha..

Do you know there is a 4 way chess?

Now I think of it, I might have heard of the 4 player version. It sounds crazy / intense!

Maybe we'll play one day.

That would be fun! :<)

I like to think that I'm pretty patient, even though I'm always multi tasking ( or single tasking back and forth, like many of us ) but I also think patience is an important skill to develop ( and I can still do way better ).

Chess and meditation - to name two examples - are great ways to build this muscle.

Oh to be so sensitive that act of filing your nails can get to you! Glad that rapture found a solution!
What type of talk to text did you find? That would sure speed things up and I think if I you can just speak your thought and have it recorded in type the thoughts would get out more clearly.

It aint easy to be ( more than a ) Little Hyper(sensitive).

It's called Otter ( Otter.ai ) I hardly tested it but it seems to have potential, even the free version. To... Be... Continued... 🐢

Thanks for the info. I'd love to have a talk to text that works on my PC - @porters

I think it depends of your microphone. I don't have any mic here - as I'm traveling - so I've only tested it on my phone so far :<)

LOVED this and nearly spat out my coffee. 😆 Yes, LOL... literally. 😆 Yes, Beings like Hypersensitivaurus are especially sensitive to, and irritated by, slow apps and less than useful small arms. 😆

I truly love your playful self and how you plonk your playful self down in the middle of all the "SERIOUS" posts. The balance is everything.

Dikke knuffel. x

Don't waste your coffee ( on my stories ) or at least don't destroy your devices with it.

The "slowness" thing was made up. I realized that a number of voice ( control ) apps have animal names ( Parrot and in this case, Otter ) and then came up with Tortoise. It was easy joking material.

I truly love your playful self and how you plonk your playful self down in the middle of all the "SERIOUS" posts. The balance is everything.

I do my best ( to be the best me that I can be )

Superbedankt voor al je lieve woorden.

🤗

If J ever gets back into chess you may unexpectedly bump into him sometime XD he's been playing Magic online a lot more lately.

There are some things you never get used to no matter how much you try x_x but at least he can get it over and done with quickly XD

I don't think there's a chance I bump into people unexpectedly. I play with friends only now ( unless he actually used magic haha )

True that! 'Quick(ly)' ( unlike Tortoise ) is key.

Cool, glad you're digging otter. It works so well, it's almost scary ;-)

Funny that you say so. I wrote a post about it yesterday where I make a little fun of it but must admit I hardly tested it out. I think the little weasel ( I mean otter ) needs to get used to my voice some more.
