Greetings Foodies!

Here's another unexpected dish that I cooked for my family together with the family of one of my sisters. This is a special dish because the fish was gifted to my sister by one of her frozen food clients in Baler, Philippines (who owns a fishing vessel). The fish weighs two kilos. It was freshly caught from the sea early in the morning then I cooked it before lunchtime.

I put my heart into cooking this dish because this is the first time that I will be cooking for my sister's family. My sister's family is visiting us today, she brought with her the fish and then she asked me to cook for her family.

This is actually the first time that I am going to cook this dish, so, I have to ask some questions to my sister about how to cook it. There are actually some fish dishes that I already cooked before like "Ginataang Tulinga" but I just want to make sure so that my sister and her family will not be disappointed.

After confirming that its cooking process is the same as one of the fish dishes that I cooked before I then proceeded in cooking this delicious fish dish.

By the way, as the title implies, this is called "Ginataang Tulingan".

So, without further ado here's how I cook this very delicious dish...

  • Mackerel Tuna (Tulingan)
  • Coconut Milk (Coconut Milk is called "Gata" in our language, hence the word "Ginataan" or "Ginataang")
  • Green Pepper
  • Ground Black Pepper
  • Onion
  • Garlic
  • Ginger
  • Vinegar (will make the sauce a little bit sour, making it more delicious)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Tomato (will suppress/remove the fishy taste and smell of the fish according to my sister)

Slice and clean the mackerel tuna

Peel and slice the onion

Peel and slice the ginger

Clean and slice the tomato into four

Split the coconut into two

Grate all the splitted coconuts

after grating add about three classes of water to the grated coconut

Squeeze the grated coconut after adding water

After squeezing remove the excess grated coconut by using a strainer

Then repeat the straining one more time

Then you got this beautiful coconut milk

10. Add the vinegar (add more later to make the taste of the vinegar a little bit noticeable but not too strong)

11. Then let it boil until the coconut milk is reduced

12. When the milk is reduced and the sourness and saltiness of the soup are now okay it is done, turn off the heat.
