Grill House | гриль хаус - The Arabic, Ukrainian, Indian fast food, grill and restaurant.

The success of a restaurant may not only be limited to its popularity, but also how many circles do they cater for and how well does it run come lockdown or not.

Grill House in Kharkov, Ukraine is one spot that has, for years on end, been the popular go-to for a hangout, quick bite or a feast. Previously, it was under a different management and name "BEIRUT".

Beirut's popularity soared and its sudden closure was unexplained. Grill House filled the spot, and doubled down on the popularity of the location to bring some of the most delicious and diverse cuisines and courses.

One of the major makeovers Beirut got when it came under Grill House's management is the interior.
De to cold weathers, people usually prefer to sit inside, and bagging a good interior always elevates the dining experience.

As soon as you enter the restaurant, you are immediately engulfed in an underwater vibe. 2 beautiful sea mermaids welcome you, directing to the wonderful array of fresh food and menu awaiting you.

On one side you have beautifully painted sea scene with a boat on it, the paint protrudes giving a 3-d feel. On the other side you have a more contemporary and sober European design with a digital fireplace.

On the left, the sea theme continues, taking a more pirate-y angle. However, due to covid restrictions, the inner halls were closed off.

At the very end is the beautiful display of ingredients and products.

It is here, where the chef will grill up your choice of meat in plain view, right in front of your eyes.

Apart from the grill, coffee machines and stove tops stand behind where many items can be cooked. However, the "real" kitchen is hidden behind the back wall, where most of the items are cooked.

You can, of course, talk to the chef while he grills your orders and also communicate with him to find the best ingredients to choose and personalize your meal.

I love the open kitchens since the chef can put up a show and it always adds an extra layer to the dining experience.

The display beautifully showcases all the types of meats that you can choose from, as well as items like condiments or traditional sweets.

Chicken Chest (mansaf, broasted, mandi), Chicken legs and wings (BBQ, Broasted), Chicken tighs (broasted, bbq, mandi), Chicken breast- cut (Shashlik, biryani).

Mutton - cut (mansaf, broasted, mandi, madbi), Beef "farsh" (tawuk, shahlik)

Mutton "farsh" (tawuk, shahslik), Mahlabia (sweet, Dried figs and grapes, Manakeesh - chicken, mutton, mix.

This is part of the massive arsenal they have on their grill menu, while the rest sits in the back and brought out upon order.

It is both tempting and very confusing to place an order when all these choices and different aromas fog up the brain.

Add that to the fact that they have an Arabic cuisine, Indian cuisine and Ukrainian cuisine to choose from!

Lets look at the menu.

If you have visited some of the other Ukrainian restaurant posts on hive, you will notice one massive kicker. The price.

Although grill house 515 serves 3 different cuisines, in one of the busiest locations, their prices are among the lowest in town.

Here is the Sandwich menu where the sandwiches are going at 50-60 UAH. The "menu" means you get fries and a drink to go with the sandwich and you pay 40-50 UAH extra.

The Indian menu is a bit fancier, going in line with fancy Indian food.
They have everything from lassi to the rare jalebi. All sorts of biryanis and an extensive list of vegetarian options.

I personally was impressed at Grill House for having such an extensive Indian Menu while catering to 3 different cuisines.

The plain chicken biryani is among the top sellers in the indian menu and the mutton Shawarma is the top seller on the fast food menu.

I ordered 2 shawarmas and a biryani to put the restaurant's best efforts in perspective.

Immediately I am taken aback at the portion sizes. HUGE! The shawarmas are the typical Ukraine styled shawarmas instead of Arabic styled.
Which means, flat stove grilled mutton, with a bunch of garlic or mayo/ketchup condiment, and packed with fries all wrapped in "lavash" bread.

Although the Ukrainian style shawarma is a huge disappointment, the Grill House does it best.

The biryani on the other hand, just as huge in portion, was filled with spices. It may look plain but the flavor is there.
The rice is really well cooked and the chicken is spiced separately.

Contrary to how it looks, it is one of the best biryanis from a non-indian restaurant.

Considering the interior, the style, the open kitchen, the portion sizes and the very wide reaching cuisines, this is a 5 out of 5 place to treat your taste buds!

I love Indian food! The interior looks fascinating and I really thought it's a mere seafood restaurant but surprisingly they also offer meat and veggies!

I think I was thoroughly surprised that they have a vegetarian menu. It's not very common here.
