Let's Wine About It Issue #5

Hello, my dear "Winers"!

Hope you're all doing great!

This week I got some nice deals so maybe, just maybe, I was thinking from now on I will choose my favorite to be posted on our issues and keep the others for later reference.
Like lost files.
I feel like some weeks I have too many great wines to talk about while others I don't think I had anything worthy.
This way I will always have one nice bottle to tell you about every week.

Anyway, let's get down to business:

So, today I'm bringing you "Quinta da Pedra Cavada - Douro, Reserva 2019"
(Douro, what a shocker)

Before anything else, I have to give you some background.
This wine (both red and white) has not been produced since 2012 (which made its price skyrocket).
In 2020 the company "Colinas do Douro" that produces this wine (and many others) announced that they would re-sell it, also "Reserva" but from 2018.
Those bottles were numbered, there were 45.000 bottles of red wine and 15.000 of white.

I was not aware of this until I brought home the bottle and went online to see what I was getting myself into.

I must say it was a pleasant surprise.
Ever since I started getting more interest in grapes instead of just drinking I noticed that by the region and the grapes you can have a sense of what's coming your way.
But this one did not mention the grape types on the bottle.

So let me save you some research time:

• Touriga Nacional;
• Touriga Franca;
• Tinto Cão;

Appreciation:

It's a very modern wine which is not necessarily bad!
This was a rocker!

On the mouth, it has a very round flavor, with very matured tannins.
On the nose, we had a party. You could feel berries, spices, some vanilla, and most definitely some smoked wood.
In "the eyes, chico. They never lie". It most definitely is a very deep ruby.

Remember what I said about the bottle not giving much information on which grape types?
They also gave little to no clue about how long the wine aged in oak, nor which type of oak.
From my experience, I would say they used American oak barrels.

Overall, this was a great wine in general!
This 14% rocker surely goes well with red meats and curated cheeses!
Unlike last week, this is something denser, so it's a better choice to pair it while having a meal or afterward.
But I'm no expert and for me is always Wine o'clock.
