The story of how I have fallen in love with Sushi || Kharkov, Ukraine

I was the one who used to hate sushi, I mean I used to think why people love sushi (raw fish and rice). I used to ask myself what is the specialty of the recipe of Sushi? sticky rice? I eat and cook rice every day. Raw Fish!!! Nah, I hate fish and can't digest the smell of the cooked fish. And yikes, this is raw fish, a clear no from me. So, why people love Sushi. One thing I wanna mention here that I had no idea about vegan sushi, all I knew was raw fish and sticky rice with soya sauce dipping. I had no idea about wasabi and pickled ginger as well.

Sushi is a traditional Japanese food made with Sticky vinegared rice and stuffings (vegetables, fishes, and others), I guess many people know about Sushi and has a better idea than me. Sushi is very popular in Kharkiv city among Ukrainians. I don't know from where and how they have fallen in love with sushi but mostly any get-together, family dinner, or friends hangout they prefer sushi more than steak.

As I have said, I was never in love with Sushi even never wanted to taste it for once. After coming here, I have noticed how popular sushi is here. In every restaurant, there is a specific menu for Sushi where you can choose your desired sushi. The first time when I went for dinner, I saw people ordered a Sushi platter instead of Steak or Protein.

I was kinda astonished by seeing the whole scenario and decided to taste Sushi for the first time. The restaurant I have chosen for my experiment was Yakitoria Restaurant, located in the city center, Kharkiv.

The location of this restaurant is a very dynamic and popular zone, it's near to Universitite metro station and easy to find out. Anyway, I have written a short review before almost 2 years ago about it. If you want you can check it out A Restaurant for spending quality time. So, after 2 years I have decided to share my opinion once again because many things have been changed so far. Yes, the location is still the same but they have changed the interior, and food price increased a lot. The good thing is food quality is still the same.

I won't say that this is my go-to restaurant but their sushi is good and to be honest because of their service and taste of sushi, I fall in love with sushi. I have tasted worse sushi in my life and later I decided to avoid eel stuffing for myself because of the fish fragrance. There are many restaurants with sushi menus nowadays in Kharkiv but people still come here to spend some quality time with sushi and Kallyan.

During new year's eve, I and my friends went to freedom square and decided to do our dinner at Yakitoria because it was the nearest restaurant. Till then KFC was always closed so our only option was Yakitoria and sushi. As we all were smokers and wanted to celebrate the new year so we decided to order a sushi platter for 3 people and a Kalyan.

After entering the restaurant, I was feeling nostalgic because I came into this restaurant after 2 years almost to have sushi. Still a well decorated, warm, cozy environment restaurant with some personal touch of plants and pebbles. Lighting was also different and the new year night became more magical.

This cute little reindeer was adding extra beauty to the restaurant...

Wooden vertical panels have been used to divide sections from each other. The bar section is completely separated from the main dining area. The whole restaurant is divided into three zones, one zone stays closed during winter.

We went to the restaurant around 10 pm at night because other restaurants were already closed because of new year's eve. The restaurant environment was quiet and only a few people were around. Some were enjoying wine with their partners and some were smoking Kalyan with friends. After taking our desired sit, the waiter gave us the menu and we quickly decided what we want to eat. We were hungry so we ordered a mixed sushi platter without eel stuffing.

After 15 minutes, our desired sushi platter was served with wasabi, pickled ginger, and soy sauce. We took Bbq Salmon stuffing, cheese stuffing, cucumbers and avocado, and salmon egg sushi. Total 30 pieces of sushi and it costs 299 UAH which almost 10.5$ platter. Really cheap for 3 people. We also took cola and tea as well and of course Kalyan which cost around 6$.

After tasting sushi from different restaurants, I still think the sushi from Yakitoria is the best so far and after 2 years I still felt the same mouthwatering taste of sushi. Obviously, the taste of the sushi depends on variety and ingredients but their cheese stuffing sushi is the best.

According to Kharkiv and comparing to other restaurants, the price was reasonable I would say but if I have to compare with my previous cost then a little bit expensive.
