Shizen Ramen, "Living with Nature" in Compostela, Cebu

On rainy days like today, I can tell that a lot are craving for ramen. Imagine sipping rich hot ramen soup and feeling the warmth comforting you from the cold, chilly weather.

While I am not picky when it comes to choosing the food that I eat, I like it when restaurants have a wide, spacious area. I guess it's the personal space for me 😂. So if you'd like to enjoy a bowl of ramen and Japanese dishes with a view, give Shizen Ramen restaurant a visit!

Relaxing night view of their Japanese-inspired pond

The first time I've come to know of this place was when a Facebook friend shared this on the social media site. He took awesome pictures of the place and he featured this pond with these flowers. I'm not really sure if these are water lilies or lotus flowers, I'm no expert when it comes to plants. So here's a closer look of the flowers just in case a Hiver recognizes what kind of plants these are.

This is an appreciation post for the food and the place. Hence, the reason why I posted this on Foodies Bee Hive and I pinned this on Pinmapple 😊.

Please don't get me wrong when I say that I was surprised to find a place like this in Northern Cebu. This place is located 26 km away from Cebu IT Park. Just that, most of the food establishments are located in the heart of Cebu and the cities near the capital. It's a long drive, but I found that the place relaxing. It made me enjoy taking my time with nature. "Shizen" after all, means nature.

For me, the place wasn't strictly exuding a Japanese vibe. It was more like a fusion of Filipino, Japanese with a hint of European. I didn't mind. As long as the place was spacious and there weren't a lot of people, I was enjoying myself 😁.

My friend and I were supposed to meet by 6:00 pm. It was an overdue dinner date, and it was only last Friday when our schedules aligned. To our surprise, she had two last minute clients took up a long time to be catered to. Having arrived first, I took my time to enjoy the restaurant's interior.

I arrived just a few minutes after 6:00 pm, and I noticed that there were only three cars parked. Turns out, there were only two groups of customers that they were to serve that day. This would explain why they didn't respond to my request for reservation the day prior. I booked a table for two via their Facebook Page. They are open Tuesday-Sunday 11 am-8 pm. They are closed on Mondays.

My friend arrived at around 15 minutes before 8 pm, the closing time. However, there was a last minute customer - a group of 3. They extended their operating hours to accommodate the clients. That gave me and my friend more time to catch up.

Because I wanted us to save time, I took a picture of the menu and sent it to her so that I can order ahead for us. She had the Tori Karaage while I had the okonomiyaki. I also ordered California Maki to takeaway because it was my mom's favorite. I wanted to surprise her.

Overall, we loved the food that we ate. The serving of the okonomiyaki was more than enough for us. I was able to take home a portion of the Japanese pancake. My friend also finished her Tori Karaage. Our tummies were full as we reminisced the cringey memories of the past!
