Obi-Wan Kenobi - If you hate it you are Racist, If you like it you are Woke

in CineTV2 years ago (edited)

Actually no. If you don't like it, there is a pretty big chance that you are not a racist. And if you like it, that has nothing to do with you being woke. The thing is, people that are the loudest on either side are just asshols. The same as on any other topic online in the last few years.

I have to say i am not a die hard fan of Star Wars. I watched most of the stuff that was out, but i am not deep into the lore, i generally suck in remembering names of anyone and anything and my brain refuses to remember why and how are particular people connected. That could be a reason that i was ok with Obi-Wan Kenobi (at least the first two episodes)

Most of the people that are like me (that have no idea should any character exist or what race or gender should it be or what ever) don't see problems with Obi-Wan Kenobi because of race, gender or wokeism. They have problems with stupid lazy writing and lack of common sense.

And we see all of those in most projects done in the last X years. Maybe it is that some of the series make an extra effort, so we expect some standards, maybe series look so good that we expect movie like production (yes there are a lot of blah movies made, effort dropped a lot). You can hear a lot of people say movies were so much better in the past. And that is not surprising when you watch and learn how much time was on spent attention to details and preparation. Expecting that they could do this on a series is maybe too much, but some common sense is probably not a lot to ask.

For example, Obi-Wan is obviously stealing food from the place he is working at and it is shown multiple times. And he is doing it like if he was alone and had all the time in his life to do it. (just a stupid thing that stuck out).

Then Obi-Wan buried his Lightsaber in the middle of a fucking desert. You know, desert, with sand, and sand dunes, and wind. It was there for years. And just a day after he did that there could be a hill of sand or the box could be just laying around in the open for everyone to see.

There was no need for writers to write "middle of the desert". If they spend more then 5 seconds thinking about that someone would say, that makes no sense, maybe we should go with a cave and a hole in the cave or something. You know sand moves a lot in the desert. But Noooo.

Then we get to Princess Leia. The kid is ok, does a decent job for a 10 year old that has a lot to do. A lot of the problems with her again come from lazy writing.

The chase scene where she gets kidnaped is just over the top ridiculous and it would be funny if it was not painful to watch. It reminded me of a Benny Hill chase scenes. And that was an easy thing to not do. I can't imagine anyone filming that or sitting with the editor and thinking to him self "this looks great". But yet there are people that did that and got thousands of $ for that.

There are also some stupid things in the second episode. Similar to the chase scene. Could have been easy avoided.

Then we get to the point of why you are a Racist. You hate Reva because you are racist. Well most probably not. You most probably hate Reva because the idea of the show was that you should hate her and in combination of bad writing and character creation you could hate her more then you should.

There were more then needed scenes trying to show how bad ass she is, but most of the time she just sounds annoying. There is still time for them to maybe fix it. Maybe she will became more then one sided blah character. Maybe.

In the scene where she is running parkour style, that was made only to show how cool she is, she reminded me of Blade. No idea why :)

Oh and i just remembered. In the opening scenes when the Jedi dies trying to protect the children i thought are there training simulations in Star Wars? There is no way that those children are real, they must be a badly written AI and we will get those weird transitions when you exit the simulation. Jedi will just stand up and someone will say to her "you failed, do it again"

Did you watch it? Are you a Racist or are you Woke?

I watched it! And, yes, I found the exact same issues that you did - Obi-Wan not getting caught for stealing food, finding his light saber so incredibly easy, and that chase scene that should have lasted about 3 seconds. It'll get better. It needs to get better, because I'm undoubtedly going to watch the rest of them as well.

And yeah, I'm tired of the racist/woke howling because of this or that, too. The producer's need to find the right actor to portray the right character and, beyond that, I personally don't give a shit if the person is black, white, purple, or has four unique sexes. Some people have too much time on their hands and nothing else to bitch about.

finding his light saber so incredibly easy

not even finding it easy, the idea of hiding it in the middle of the desert 😁 don't they know how deserts work? what if there is a was a 20 meter dune when he wants to dig it up 😄

i do hope that it will get better. and yes i will watch it. i am a sucker for sci-fi and i don't mind easy entertainment. They just need to cut off with the obvious stupidity.

yap it has nothing to do with racist/woke, they are just making excuses for lazy writing and bad characters. maybe it will get better. but with that chase scene and with people working on it saying "that looks good", i have my fears 😄

Haha, I didn't even know the existence of this but I enjoyed your writing!
I don't think I'll ever see it though :)

:D

if you are not a fan of it (or maybe even if you are :D) you will not miss anything by not watching it. it will not be a masterpiece of cinema, at least that is how it looks right now.

i am a sucker for space, aliens, spaceships, lasers... i should probably not even admit the amount of bad sci-fi i watched :D

I have seen all the Star Wars, at least two times each but I don't consider myself a fun. Still I wouldn't want to see a favorite hero in a lesser production!

there are some talks that there will be a good amount of Darth Vader transformation. And some kind of Obi-Wan / Vader conflict.

thing is, it could be good if they only spend some times to avoid things like this :)

Haha, I got the picture :)
